Abstract

This research was conducted to: (1) identify proficiency level of Grammar Mastery English department Students, (2) Identify proficiency level of writing thesis proposal English department Students, (3) Investigate the correlation between Grammar mastery and Writing Thesis Proposal of English Language Education Program at the sixth semester at STKIP YDB Lubuk Alung. The research applied correlational research; the population of this research was the sixth-semester students in academic year 2017/2018. The samples of this research were 32 students chosen by using total sampling technique. The data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistic through SPSS 22.0 version. The research result showed that (1) the students’ grammar mastery was proven by mean score 73.84, it was classified as a moderate category, (2) the students writing proposal thesis was proven by mean score 74.75, which is categorized as moderate. (3) There was a correlation between Grammar mastery and Writing Thesis Proposal of English Language Education Program. It showed that the value of Fcount= 0.837was greater than Ftable= 0.349 (Fcount > Ftable), or p= 0.000 was lower than α= 0.05 (p <α). In other words, the alternative hypothesis that saying there is a significant relationship between grammar mastery and writing thesis proposal is accepted. It can be concluded that grammatical mastery gives a significant contribution to the paper thesis writing.

Abstract

EFEK PEMBIASAAN MENULIS DAN MEMBACA SECARA KOLABORATIF TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN MENULIS TEKS DIARI PADA KELAS DELAPAN MTsN KAMANG AbstractThis study was conducted to see the effect of collaborative writing strategy and the students’ reading habits on their ability in writing recount text. It was a 2x2 factorial semi-experimental research. The sources of the data were the students’ composition and questioners on student’s reading habits. It was found that (1) the students taught by using collaborative writing strategy performed better than those taught by using conventional writing strategies, 2) the students getting high score on their reading habits and taught by using collaborative writing strategy fared better than those taught by using conventional writing strategy, 3) the students getting low score on their reading habits and taught by using collaborative writing strategy did not perform better than those taught by using conventional writing strategy, and 4) there was no interaction between both collaborative writing strategy and conventional writing strategy and the student’s reading habits on the students’ writing ability.Keywords: Collaborative Writing, students’ Reading Habits,students’ writing, recount text. AbstrakPenelitian ini dilakukan untuk melihat pengaruh strategi penulisan kolaboratif dan kebiasaan membaca siswa terhadap kemampuan menulis teks recount (diari). Penelitian ini merupakan semi eksperimental 2x2. Sumber data adalah komposisi dari siswa dan kuesioner tentang kebiasaan membaca siswa. Ditemukan bahwa (1) siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan strategi penulisan kolaboratif lebih baik daripada yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi penulisan konvensional, 2) siswa mendapatkan nilai tinggi pada kebiasaan membaca mereka dan diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi penulisan kolaboratif yang lebih baik daripada yang diajarkan menggunakan strategi penulisan konvensional, 3) siswa mendapatkan skor rendah pada kebiasaan membaca mereka dan diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi penulisan kolaboratif tidak berkinerja lebih baik daripada yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi penulisan konvensional, dan 4) tidak ada interaksi antara strategi penulisan kolaboratif dan konvensional dan kebiasaan membaca terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa.Kata Kunci: Collaborative Writing, students’ Reading Habits, students’ writing, recount text.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the Effect of Transition Action Details strategy toward Students’ writing ability of recount text to the first Grade at SMAN 6 Pariaman. The kind of This researches in the form of experiment, especially pretest and posttest control group design. The research population was all students in class X IPS SMAN 6 Pariaman school year 2018/2019 that consist of 100 students. The samples were X IPS1 class as the experimental class that consist of 25 students and X IPS2 class as the control class that consist of 25 students. This research used cluster random sampling technique.Experimental class was taught by using transition action details, and control class was taught by using conventional strategy. The instrument of collecting the data that used by the researcher was writing test. The technique of analyzing data was the hypothesis test was t-test formula, which was used test the difference in mean and standard deviation of the two samples.Based on the analysis of data obtained, tcalculate=3,33 and ttable=1.67 .Because tcalculate (3,33) > ttable (1.67), then H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted, it can be concluded that the application of Transition Action Details strategy provides a significant effect on students’ writing ability of class X rather than conventional strategy at SMAN 6 Pariaman. Abstract

The study was aimed at describing what linguistic errors namely, grammatical, syntactical, morphological, phnological and lexical errors that English education program students made in translating Indonesian language into English. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. Research participants were 19 sixth semester students of English education at STKIP YDB who took translation subject for academic year of 2018/2019. The research instrument was translation test derived from the students’ translation midterm examination which comprised translating 15 Indonesian sentences into English. Data was analyzed through error analysis in which was proposed by Ellis (1997) involving steps such as (1) collecting samples / data, (2) identifying the errors, (3) classifying translation errors, (4) explaining the errors, and (5) evaluating / interpreting the error. The results of the study revealed that the main linguistic errors that the students had in translating Bahasa Indonesia into English was in lexical aspect. It was found that lexical error comprised 72,8% of total errors. For grammar and syntactical aspects, it was found that both contained 12,% of total errors made by the students. For morphological aspects, it was found that only 3,1% of total errors was made. For the linguistic problems in phonological aspects, surprisingly it was found 0% of total errors . It can be concluded language acquisition of these students in the linguistic component of English as a foreign language was inadequate in the act of translating, especially in the level of "lexicon" (vocabulary and choice of words), grammar and syntax.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara minatsiswa(x) dan pencapaian nilai dalam pembelajaran BahasaInggris (y). Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMA N 1 2x11 Kayutanam 2020-2021 dengan jumlah populasi 125 siswa. Teknik sampel dalam penelitian ini menggunakan Random Sampling. Untuk mengetahui hubungan antara minatsiswa dan pencapaian nilai dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, peneliti melakukan proses data dengan menggunakan korelasi product moment, yang didapat koefisien korelasi antara dua variabel yaitu 0,702 dengan korelasi indeks pada thitung 5.3 dan t tabel adalah 2.048 untuk ? = 0,05. Jadi, kesimpulan bahwa koefisien korelasi antara dua variabel (rxy) t-hitung lebih besar dari t-tabel, berarti Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Dengan kata lain, adanya signifikan korelasi 0,702 (70%) antara penguasaan minatsiswa dan pencapaian nilai dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di kelas XSMAN 1 2x11 Kayutanam, pada tahun akademik 2020/2021.
