Abstract

The analysis of understory vegetation on Jati Emas (Tectona grandis L.) and Jati Putih (Gmelina arborea Roxb.) stand in Andalas University campus was conducted from May until July 2012. The objectives of this research were: to determine species composition, structure and diversity index of species. The method of this research was quadratic method with line 1 m x 1 m. The results were found 22 families, 43 species and 624 individuals. The highest importance value was dominated by Gleichenia linearis (29.7%) at Jati Emas Stand and Melastoma malabathricum (38.19%) at Jati Putih Stand. Diversity index (H’) had value were 2.88, 2.81, 2.46 and it’s categorizhed as middle diversity. The higher simillarity index was found between Jati Emas and Jati Putih stand (40.74%), next between Jati Emas and without Jati stand (24%) was found as middle simillarity index and the lower similliarity index was found between Jati Putih and without Jati stand (13.04%).Keywords: Understory, Tectona grandis, Gmelina arborea

Abstract

Analysis of weed vegetation on red dragon fruit plants Hylocereus polyrhizus, L.on sandy soils and not gritty in the District Batang Anai, Padang Pariaman has conducted from March-April 2013 by using the of random squares method with the number 12 plot size1x1 m at each location. The results showed on sandy soils have been found 11 families, 20 genera, 21 species, and 822 individuals. Amaranthus lividus SDR has the highest value (25.80%), and the lowest value of SDR Galinsoga parviflora (0.90%), is the diversity index H'= 2.16 (moderate). While the sandy soil found in 6 families, 12 genera, 15 species and 1070 individuals. Eleusine indica the highest value of SDR (14.1%), and the lowest value of SDR Ageratum conyzoides, diversity index H'= 2.25 (moderate). Index of similarity of 38.88% (significantly different). Abstract

We experimentally studied the effect of organic mulches on weeds and yield of green beans (Phaseolus radiatus L.) have been conducted at green house and Laboratory of Plant Ecology, Departement of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Andalas University, Padang, from January to May 2014. The aims of this study were to determine the effect of different mulches (Mikania micrantha and Tithonia diversifolia) on weeds and yield of green beans. The experiment used nested design with eight treatments and three replications. The first factor (factor A) was two kinds of mulch (i.e Mikania micrantha and Tithonia diversifolia). While the second factor (factor B) was the given doses of mulch (i.e 0 g/polybag, 300 g/polybag, 600 g/polybag and 900 g/polybag). The results showed that Mikania micrantha mulch gave the stronger effect to reduce weed numbers. Mikania micrantha mulch on 900 g/polybag increased plant height and Mikania micrantha mulch on 300 g/polybag increased seed yield. Whereas Tithonia diversifolia mulch on 600 g/polybag increased plant height and the number of primary branches and Tithonia diversifolia mulch on 300 g/polybag increased seed yield.

Abstract

The study about composition and structure weed of rice field (Oryza sativa L.) in vegetative phase in Singkarak, Solok, West Sumatra was conducted from June to September 2013 by using squares method with purposive sampling plots. The result founded weeds consist of 6 families, 10 species and 5245 individuals. Fimbristylis miliacea showed the highest value of SDR (Summed Dominance Ratio) (36.17%) and the lowest was Hedyotis diffusa (1.61). The diversity index was H'= 1.60 (high). Abstract

An experiment of giving mulch of rice straw (Oryza sativa) on weeds and crop production soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merr) has been carried out at the Laboratory of Plant Ecology, Andalas University, Padang from June to September 2013. The purpose of this study was to determine and define how mulch of rice straw suppress weed growth and increase the production of soybeans. This experiment used a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and five replications. The result showed that rice straw mulching of 300g/10kg can suppressed the growth of weeds, and rice straw mulching of 500g/10kg could increase soybean production. All treatments showed significantly influence on the increase weight of soybeans product. Keyword: mulch, rice straw, soybean, weeds

Abstract

Vegetation analysis of weeds at rubber plantation (Hevea brasiliensis Mull.Arg.) at Batang Kapas, Pesisir Selatan, was carried out from March to April 2013. The weeds were sampled purposively using plot quadrat method at three and six years old of rubber plantations. There were totally 13 families, 23 genera dan 27 species of weeds found in the two types of rubber plantations. The two locations were dominated by different species of weeds. Borreria alata has the highest Summed Dominance Ratio (SDR) at three years and Scleria sumatrensis at six years old of rubber  plantations. Diversity indices were relative moderate (2,17 at three years old and 2,2 at six years old rubber plantations) in both locations and species similarity between the two location were low (45,7%).
