Abstract

A research about integrated farming system research for maize among coconut trees was carried out in Tabek Panjang village, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The objective of the research was to find out the best adaptation of maize variety, hybrid and high yielding of maize composite, combined with zero tillage technology. The data were analyzed by using comparative analysis approach between the improve technology in the technical work (productivity and economic cost, profitable and R/C ratio). The result showed that maize C9 hybrid gave the highest yield 7,34 ton/ha, maize C7 hybrid and Bisma varieties gave yields 6,84 ton/ha and 4,56 ton/ha, respectively. The farm operation analysis showed that maize C9 hybrid gave profit Rp 4,060,000 and R/C 2,24 , maize C7 hybrid Rp 3,561.000 and R/C 2,09 and maize Bisma variety Rp. 1,434,850 R/C ratio 1,46. In general, the result of the a study showed that land preparation with zero tillage system was better for maize C7 and C9 hybrids planted among coconut trees. Abstract

The national maize necessity directly increase in the last few years. On the years 1996-2000 periods rate of maize import was about 52,08 % per year. The amount of national maize need for feeding increased approximately 52,4% of food derived from maize to increase the national maize production by expansions of maize hybrid and composite. However their development on the former still slowly. The production increasing from 1996 to 2001 0,17% on year and maize productivity about 2,67 t/ha. In the west sumatera by exspansion maize planting area and utilization of land area more efficient, and include land area either coconut plant. West sumatera province had coconut plantation would total area 91,920 ha. And spreahed in some regensi and city. The result of the experiment and assessment in west sumatera BPTP. In land area inter coconut plant plant can be growth maize C5,C7 and C9 hybrids and yield average about 5,0 6,7 t/ha in 50 kota dan Padang Pariaman regency with r/c ratio 1,9 2,5. From the result of research and assessment of west sumatera BPTP. Application of land area inter coconut plant had opportunity to increase maize production in West Sumatera. Abstract

The addition of the organic matter into a soil will improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil and the soil quality can be maintained. The organic matter application into agriculture field can be done directly at no tillage system farming or can be composted insitu. In the no tillage system weeds were controlled by herbicide. Application and insitu composting of the crop residual and weed were incorporated into the soil before maize planting. The results of the experiment showed that, the direct (insitu) composting system gave the higher yield of maize and more profitable than without application of organic matter. The utilization of organic matter in no tillage system and insitu composting were more advantageous because the organic matter were not processed such as compost, and cost as well as time was more efficient. Abstract

The research was conducted in Tandikek mountain region, Padang Pariaman District, then at soil laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University as well as at physical and soil mineralogy laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Jambi University from October 2002 to February 2003. The research was designed in the form of field survey. Determination of the location was based on the land uses. There were 5 land use types, those were mixture farm, paddy soil, secondary forest, cinnamon, and coconut. The results showed that physical nature of soil under mixture farm, paddy soil, secondary forest, cinnamon, and coconut varied at texture (dusty plates), organic contents (high-very high), slowly drainage pore (PDL) and pore of water available (PAT) which were not significantly different among the five land uses. Permeability of total pore space (TRP) and fast drainage pore (PDC) were high at land use of cinnamon and not significantly different at land uses of paddy soil, secondary forest, and coconut.
