Abstract

A classroom functions as a place for learning and teaching activities. To accommodate these funcions, it is important to consider the lighting quality that should meet the standard requirement for the learning activities. Initial measurements of the light intensity of the classrooms in SMA Negri 9 Surabaya show that some of these classrooms have not met the standard requirement. This research used the Dialux v. 4.8 software to investigate and discover the best lighting quality that should be achieved according to ligthing standards. Results show that the type of lamp used influences the lighting conditions of a classroom. Meanwhile different interior elements, furniture materials and finishings also affect the distribution of light which produce different light reflections that influence the comfort level of the users. The use of colour on the interior elements and furnitures also affect the light intensity in which every colour produces different light reflections and interior atmoshphere.

Abstract

Inpatient rooms in Dutch colonial heritage hospitals have some unique physical characteristics related to lighting, such as the height of the building structure and the use of terazzo for wall and floor finishing. These characteristics cause the atmosphere of the hospital to appear bleak since the amount of lighting illumination in the rooms is not fulfilled. The purpose of this research is to analyze and find solutions for optimal lighting design by taking the case of the upper-class wards in two Dutch colonial hospitals in Surabaya: the RS Darmo and the SSR St. Vincentius A Paulo. The first step is observation and measurement using Lightmeter LX-103 to determine the amount of turning on the instrument room, followed by verification and simulation optimization using a computer program of DIALux v.4.6. The analysis showed that the lighting conditions on the wards at both hospitals have not met the optimum standards. Thus, there are several ways to optimize light levels, including: the replacement of materials and colors of the walls and floors with brighter colors, decreasing the ceiling height using a drop ceiling, replacement of the colors of the furniture with brighter colors, and the use of 28-36W fluorescent lamp and soft white 26W down lighting.

Abstract

A shop-house is a simple and practical alternative residential space that can accommodate various activities from small economic scale to the combination of living and working functions. This triggers the uncontrolled development of shop-house construction so as to meet the increasing demands of users. The demand of short-time construction has caused the shop-houses to be constructed poorly with low considerations to safety, adding to misuse. This has caused fire cases in the shop-houses sacrificing many lives who were unable to evacuate from the building. Using the qualitative and descriptive method of research, this research aims to provide solutions and alternative emergency staircase designs appropriate for shop-houses in Surabaya to increase the safety of the users

Abstract

Bangunan cagar budaya merupakan bangunan yang telah berusia lebih dari 50 tahun dan memiliki nilai sejarah yang tinggi, sehingga tak  jarang  masih  digunakan  hingga  saat  ini.  Perkembangan  zaman  memaksa  bangunan  cagar  budaya  untuk  beradaptasi  dengan lingkungan sekitar dan teknologi yang terus berkembang. Kota Surabaya merupakan salah satu kota yang memiliki banyak bangunan cagar budaya dan masih digunakan sebagai tempat beraktifitas hingga saat ini, salah satu fungsi bangunan cagar budaya di Surabaya adalah sebagai sekolah.. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui performa sekolah melalui uji kualitas udara dalam ruang dan  untuk  mengetahui  jenis  penghawaan  yang  sebaiknya  digunakan  oleh  bangunan  cagar  budaya  di  Surabaya.  Penelitian  ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif. SMK Negeri 2 dan SMK St. Louis 1 dipilih untuk mewakili sekolah dengan bangunan cagar budaya di Surabaya. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara observasi, pengisian kuisioner, dan pengambilan sampel fisik, kimia dan mikrobiologi udara. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa SMK Negeri 2 memiliki faktor fisik yang  melebihi  Nilai  Ambang  Batas  (NAB),  sedangkan  untuk  faktor  kimia  dan  mikrobiologi  dari  kedua  sekolah  berada  di  bawah NAB.  Hasil  penelitian  juga  menunjukan  bahwa  jenis  penghawaan  buatan  lebih  direkomendasikan pada bangunan cagar budaya di Surabaya.

Abstract

A good audio visual lecture hall is a space designed with the right systems for the room itself, especially in terms of the application of interior acoustics. The acoustic conditions of audio visual lecture halls are often designed without real consideration and thus result in acoustic reverberation and feedback when used. Manual calculation, Autodesk Ecotect Analysis 2011 software, and Armstrong Reverberation software were the methods and tools used in this research. Results indicated that the use of material that have a low absorption coefficient such as concslab on ground, framed plywood partition, single glazed alum frame blinds, and solid core oak timber could meet the standard acoustic level for audio visual rooms appropriate for speech.
