Abstract

Islamic banking fall on stagnation of financial performance in 2011 after successfully overcoming the financial crisis in 1998 and 2008, as though the Islamic banking sector had only run in place and had no clear purpose in developing the Islamic finance business. The purpose of this study is to clarify the variables that predispose financial performance, as well as predict the decrease and increase of financial performance. This study uses an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model to find out the variables that affect financial performance and predict the decrease and increase of financial performance of sharia and conventional banking for the next five months. This research generates the variables which affect the financial performance of sharia banking and the prediction of financial performance over the next five months. The variables which affect the level of financial performance of sharia banking affected dominantly by inflation, although the results of conventional banking are the same but not too significant. This shows that sharia banking CBGB (Commercial Bank Group of Business) 2 is very vulnerable with macroeconomic factors compared with conventional banking. ANN predictions produce an average of 80% success in predicting performance over the next five months.

Abstract

In recent years consumer behaviour plays an important role on influencing customers' preferences to use a financing service. Contemporary consumers are becoming more selective in their choices, as they are more well-informed of a particular product or service. This research investigates the decision-making process which influence customers in choosing a financing service, by analysing the influence of religiosity, TPB (attitude towards behavior, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control), and product attribute that drives customers' intent in choosing financial services in sharia multifinance. To address this notion, we collected sample feedback from 160 respondents, who are active customers of Unit Usaha Syariah (UUS) multifinance ABC. The methododology used in this research is Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The result shows that factors such as religiosity, attitude towards behavior, subjective norms and product attribute affect consumers' intention in purchasing a financing service. On the other hand, perceived behavioral control has no significant influence on consumers' decision-making. Therefore, it is imperative for those involved in the sharia multifinance industry to gain more insight in order to perceive market opportunities based on consumer behavior by developing suitable marketing strategies in order to capture their interest to opt for financing services in sharia multifinance. Keywords: Consumer behaviour, religiosity, TPB, attribute product, sharia multifinance

Abstract

One of the Bank Syariah Indonesia branches, Bank Syariah Indonesia Parepare, engages in buying, selling, and profit-sharing financing activities (Murabahah and Musyarakah). In order to implement Murabahah contracts in Bank Syariah Indonesia Parepare, provisions and norms must be understood and identified. Because the lending institution offers a commercial product, sharia financing via a Murabahah contract, this research was carried out at Bank Syariah Indonesia Parepare. The methodology employed in this study is a qualitative strategy that involves making direct observations, gathering numerous documents, and holding meetings with Bank Syariah Indonesia Parepare officials, workers, and customers to be interviewed. Data reduction, presentation, and conclusion-drawing processes were used to analyze research data in stages. The findings of this study indicated that there is still a lack of consistency from the government and banks in socializing and making policies related to the existence of Bank Syariah Indonesia, a lack of public awareness of the existence of Bank Syariah Indonesia as a result of a lack of knowledge about sharia financing, as well as a lack of knowledge and understanding of sharia bank officers regarding the mechanisms and provisions of Islamic financial institutions.

Therefore, it is vital to conduct research that can anticipate the impact of fluctuations in financial stability. This research examines the stability of the Islamic banking system in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan, using Z-Score as a proxy variable for stability measurement and Markov Switching VAR for the method. The objectives are to identify which Islamic banking has better resilience in facing crisis and identify the economic variables that have a significant effect on the stability of Islamic banking. The results showed that the stability of Indonesian Islamic banking was more stable compared to Malaysia and Pakistan. The crisis periods determined from the method show that in 2019 all countries studied entered the beginning of the crisis period, which means the world conditions tend to re-enter the crisis, repeating the 2008 financial crisis.
