Abstract

The grand  mision  of vocational  school  policy  is to produce graduates  who have national, regional  and international  competitive advantage.  To guarantee  the students of vocational  school sufficient learning  process,  the vocational  school  teacher  traning  institution  is obliged   to   provide   the   qualified    lecturers,    infrastrustures    and teaching  aids and materials.  Among  those requirements,   students  of vocational  school teacher  training  institution  should also be trained in such a way that they  are skillful  in handling  students  to face the working   environment.   This  research   is  attempted   to  meet  such demand   by  developing   teaching   process   under  Somatic  Auditiry Visual  and  Intelectual   Approach    (SAVI)   to  train   the   students sensitive against the environment.Key words: Somatic Auditiry Visual and lntelectual Approach (SAVI), Competence,  Achievement

Abstract

Translation cannot be separated from culture; therefore, a translator must have sufficient knowledge about the culture of the language that is going to be translated. This knowledge will help the translator to determine the most suitable equivalent of any text containing cultural elements. Euphemism is one of the texts. Euphemism is used to replace an expression that considered threatening the face of the speaker, the audience or some third party when it is uttered. Sex is the topic that will offend people when it is talked about openly. People in every culture tend to use euphemism when they talk about sex. However, different culture will see sex with different point of view.  This study aims to find out the differences through the translation of English sexual euphemistic expression into Indonesian. It will describe how those expressions are translated into Indonesian. This study is a descriptive qualitative study. The source of the data is an English novel by Eloisa James entitled Desperate Duchesses and its Indonesian version Memikat Kekasih. The result shows that English sexual euphemistic expressions in the novel are translated into Indonesian euphemisms, Indonesian dysphemisms, literal meaning, and description.

Abstract

Abstract- Islamic religious texts are sensitive texts, when translated they must continue to show their religiosity. Supply chain strategy in translation industry can improve its quality and honesty in the predefined process. This study uses a qualitative method, which revealed the character of supply chain in translation. After conducting research it was found that the religiosity of the text could be judged based on 1. The mention of the name of ALLAH than Tuhan, 2. The family of languages used, 3. The techniques used and 4. The frequency of Islamic religious terms that emerged. Translators have required two things as mentioned in some previous studies, namely good knowledge related to grammar and culture. Besides these two important things also must be owned by the translator is honesty and well-delivered.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan membahas klasifikasi domain sumber pada pembentukan metafora konseptual dan menjelaskan berbagai fungsinya terhadap narasi cerita maupun pembaca. Sumber data penelitian adalah novel Garis Waktu (2016) karya Fiersa Besari. Data penelitian ialah kalimat yang mengandung pembentukan metafora konseptual. Pendekatan penelitian menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif dengan pemerolehan data melalui relevances sampling. Pendekatan teori menggunakan penentuan klasifikasi domain sumber metafora konseptual dan strukturalisme kesusastraan. Metode analisis menggunakan metode analisis isi, introspektif, dan padan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembentukan metafora konseptual oleh seorang penulis dalam karyanya memiliki berbagai fungsi. Berbagai fungsi pembentukan metafora konseptual yang dijumpai ialah memberikan nilai filosofis, menampilkan estetika berbahasa, memperkuat dan memperdalam makna yang terkandung, memperluas konsep makna, menghindari kebosanan dan kejenuhan pada diksi, memberikan gambaran fisik terhadap entitas abstrak, memberikan makna yang tersirat, menyederhanakan istilah terhadap konsep yang kompleks, serta memperjelas unsur ekspresif perasaan tokoh. Konsep makna yang merujuk pada pengklasifikasian domain sumber ditemukan sebanyak 14 klasifikasi.[Figurative Language in the Form of Conceptual Metaphor in Fiersa Besari?s Novel of Garis Waktu] The research aims to discuss the classifications of source domains in the construction of conceptual metaphor and describe their functions for the story narrations and readers. The research?s data are sentences that have the construction of conceptual metaphors. The approach of the research was descriptive qualitative and relevance sampling was the data collection method. The theoretical approach used was the source domain classifications and structuralism. Data were analysed with content analysis, identity method, and introspective method. The result of the study showed that the constructions of conceptual metaphor by a writer in their content of story have many functions. The functions of conceptual metaphor formations include providing the philosophical value, showing the aesthetic of language, strengthening meaning, expanding the meaning concept, avoiding the boredom of diction, giving the physical perception of an abstract entity, giving hidden meaning, simplifying expressions of complex meaning, and showing the emotion of the character?s feeling. The perspective of concept as the comparison in the conceptual metaphor could be understood as a source domain. There were 14 classifications of source domain found in the novel of Garis Waktu.Keywords: conceptual metaphor;source domain; classifications of source domain

Abstract

This article discusses the quality of English translation of the course books of Physics, Economics, and History for Junior High School students in Indonesia. The research which becomes the base for the article is qualitative, conducted on five English version texts of bilingual books for Junior High School students in Indonesia. It selected one chapter of each book and analyzed the quality of its text structure as well as its text texture. The data were in the forms of discourse units and analyzed on the quality of the text structure and aspects of grammar quality such as the grammatical construction of the clauses and the lexical choices of the texts. In addition, it obtained data related to the readability of the texts from twenty students who were selected randomly. The results show that all of the English texts have good quality in their text structure. However, the grammar and choice of words show a number of weaknesses in each text. Text improvement should consider English grammatical rules and systems and Indonesian language interference for English grammatical constructions, word choice and technical terms.

Abstract

The vocational school graduates are expected to be work-ready but roughly, only half of them have the competency. This may results from vocational teacher's low pedagogical and professional competencies. This research aims at investigating the effects of computer simulation toward electricalengineering pre-service teachers' activeness in learning process and their ability in designing electrical control system. Using quasi-experiment with non equivalent control group pre-test post-test design, the research was conducted in Department of Electrical Engineering Education in IKIP PGRI Madiun. Statistical analysis on pre-test and post-test mean scores of the group shows that there is a significant increase on students' ability in designing electrical control system with sig 0.00. Observation on students' activeness in learning process also indicates increased activeness compared to before the use of media. These findings indicate that computer simulation serves as an effective teaching media to improve students' activeness and competencies and should be encouraged in vocational education.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the translation technique from novel Huózhe 《活着》 written by Yúhuá (余华) and novel to Live (Hidup) by Agustinus Wibowo.  The collected data were Mandarin compound sentences taken from novel Huózhe 《活着》 and the translation sentences from novel to Live (Hidup). Here, this research used qualitative descriptive method and provided by field work method. The techniques included content analysis, focus group discussion, and questioner. The researchers also provided the triangulation method, and used Spradley’s theory to analyze the data. This research used Molina & Albir’s  theory to study translation technique. The study showed the result of any kind translation techniques which used by the translator in the translation novel. This research only analyzed Mandarin compound sentence and its translation result in the target text. Based on this result, there are sixteen translation techniques that found, i.e established equivalence 831 (71,39%) data, variation 93 (7,99%) data, transposition 61 (5,24%) data, modulation 52 (4,47%) data, natural borrowing 46 (3,95%) data, explicitation 26 (2,23%) data, implicitation 20 (1,72%) data, discursive creation 9 (0,77%) data, addition 7 (0,60%) data, paraphrase 5 (0,43%) data, reduction 4 (0,34%) data, annotation 3 (0,26%) data, literal 3 (0,26%) data, generalization 2 (0,17%) data, adaptation 1 (0,09%) data, and particularization 1 (0,09%) data. Established equivalence is the dominant translation technique used to translate Mandarin compound sentence in novel Huózhe 《活着》.It is used because the translator can keep the messages of the various term in Mandarin compound sentence. The techniques that are applied to translate Mandarin compound sentence in novel Huózhe 《活着》can be used as a consideration to translate Mandarin compound sentence into Indonesia.

Abstract

Access to news in today's era is increasingly easy and practical with the presence of various social media (medsos) which have transformed into whatever the public wants. In fact, to maintain existence in the market, news that is culturally presented through the print dimension, as well as electronic media has limited access, in its development it can be reached only with the reach of one's hand. CNN news media, for example, utilizes social media by labeling official accounts to transfer information similar to other dimensions, one of which is Instagram, which contains information composed by visual and language constructions in the form of clauses/sentences. The lens of generative linguistics captures this linguistic phenomenon based on X-Bar analysis. This study aims to describe the structure of English and Indonesian verb phrases for Instagram news posts @cnn and @cnnindonesia. The results show that there are differences in the forms of verb phrases from the two languages. Verb phrases in English are more diverse due to the influence of tenses and in Indonesian they function as active and passive sentence markers.
