Abstract

Aggression is a behavior that intent to hurt others. Despite collective researches about aggression, there is a dearth in fully established psychosocial programs for the Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and evaluating program directed to aggressive behavior in the Philippines. Eight CICL housed in an institution under the supervision of the DSWD-Dasmariñas were the primary source of data. The study seeks to describe the pre-and-post mean scores of aggressions and determine the significant difference in aggression reduction before and after exposure to AMP. Employing the quasi-experimental design, the researchers administered the intervention and conducted repeated-measures to measure the effectiveness of AMP thru combined approaches of CBT-EFT in reducing their aggression level. Findings revealed that their aggression in the areas of physically aggressive responses, and verbally aggressive reactions were diminished after participating in the AMP, with the inclusion of counseling sessions in addressing problematic concerns related to aggressive behavior.

Abstract

Abstract: Drug addiction is considered as a global epidemic which drastically affects millions of people worldwide, damaging an individual’s physiological, social, and psychological facets. One of the constructs that has been determined as an essential factor in the development of a variety of addictive behaviors is self-regulation. It plays an important role in predicting, maintaining, and treating addiction. In this study, the efficacy of Desensitization of Triggers and Urge Reprocessing (DeTUR), an Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) addiction protocol, in improving self-regulation was tested among fourteen (14) in-house clients of two drug treatment and rehabilitation centers using sequential explanatory mixed method research design wherein Self-regulation Inventory-Short Version (SRI-S) and individual interviews were employed. Results explicitly proved that self-regulation scores obtained significantly differed before, after, and even the delivery of delayed posttest using the EMDR as an intervention. The study confirmed that EMDR enhances the clients’ self-regulations (Overall SRI) and the sub-areas: positive actions, controllability, expressions of feelings and needs, assertiveness, and well-being seeking. Themes generated using thematic analysis further established a basis for the efficacy of EMDR.Keywords: drug addiction, self-regulation, Eye-movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Desensitization of Triggers and Urge Reprocessing (DeTUR)

Abstract

In the Philippines, afar from the usual attachment, a child sometimes leads to offend out of survival necessity that leads to total separation from their family, this explains a phenomenon of conflict to the law. Aiming to describe the profile and personology of CICL in Bahay Kalinga; and its correlates. Case research was used in analyzing violations, family structure and personology among 20 participants. In-house CICL’s profile depicted: 15 years and 9 months as average age; substantial number of boys committed offences than girls; commonly falls below poverty rate; majority stop schooling; all own a dysfunctional family; and affirmed 4-5 family members. Regarding personology, mostly verified an average self-concept, majority pointed out having realistic self-image, and beyond median represented low self-esteem. Descriptions and measures of their profile and personology could determine the risk of being CICL. The patterns of personology were focused through the information of their extracted statements. Personology traits and types play a vital role in the concepts described by Filipino CICL. Thus, there were seven themes that build up the collection of personology as precedents of traits and patterns. Replicate the study to establish Philippine norm of cases associated with conflict of the law.

Abstract

Abstract: Treatment for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is often theory-based however, recovery has not been guided by a theory. This grounded theory study intended to identify how an  individual  maintains  recovery  from  SUD.  Twenty  (20)  recovering  persons  as  the participants in a one-on-one in-depth interview employing Charmaz’s grounded theory methodology  of  analyzing  data,  a  theory  was  developed.  The  theory  of  Filipino Substance  Use  Recovery  (SUR)  generated  five  theoretical  phases:  Exhaustion, Recognition,  Acceptance,  Involvement,  and  Maintenance.  Under  the  Maintenance phase,  components  in  maintaining  a  lifelong  recovery  were  also  identified  such  as autonomy, maturity, support system, positive feelings, and restitution. Furthermore, it recognized  two  recovery  barriers  (internal  and  external  barriers)  thus  explained  the phenomena  of  substance  use  relapse.  In  conclusion,  the  theoretical  foundation  of Filipino SUR could help improve the current treatment and management of SUD in the Philippines.  Findings  could  be  utilized  in  developing  programs  grounded  and contextualized in the Philippine setting to address issues in substance use prevention, harm reduction, intervention, and recovery.  Keywords: Substance Use Disorder (SUD), recovery, relapse, grounded theory

Abstract

Self-compassion and job satisfaction of Filipino workers across their decision-making styles are constructs of the present study being presented in the field of work. This paper aimed to identify the decision-making style; describe and measure the degree of self-compassion and job satisfaction; and determine the difference in self-compassion and job satisfaction across decision-making styles among respondents. The General Decision-making Styles Questionnaire (GDSQ), Self-compassion Scale, and Job Satisfaction Survey were administered to 359 respondents who aged from 28-60 years old, regardless of gender, across different companies in Calabarzon. The respondents were employees from entry level positions, supervisors, as well as executive level positions. Results have shown that rational, intuitive, dependent, avoidant, spontaneous, and dependent were the decision-making styles among respondents. The degree of self-compassion was at a high level (M=142.78, SD=21.16), while the degree of job satisfaction showed respondents’ ambivalence towards their job (M=3.51, SD=0.46). The Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) confirmed a significant difference (Fobt= 5.054**, p of 0.0001) in the self-compassion and job satisfaction across decision-making styles among Filipino workers and was validated by Fisher’s LSD as a post hoc test. Outcomes of the study is recommended as a basis in proposing intervention programs in human resource management and industrial psychology. Mixed-method research is recommended to strengthen the concepts of self-compassion and related variables in this study.
