Abstract

Studies on the diversity and density of macroalga have been carried out in Ambalau island waters, south Buru district since 2010. The purposes of this study were to determine the diversity, density, frequency, and the dominance of macroalga in the coastal waters of the Ambalau island. Data collection with squares transect line method were conducted in October-November 2009. The results showed that the coastal areas of Masawoy showed the highest values in diversity, density, frequency, and the dominance of macroalga in the study area with 33 species from 20 genera consisting of 14 species of green alga, 10 species of red alga, and 9 species of brown alga. Caulerpa, Halimeda, Gracilaria, Acanthophora, Sargassum, and Padina were the most dominance in the region. The highest diversity, density, frequency, and dominance of macroalga on the Masawoy coastal waters were due to its habitat conditions in relatively good condition consisting of dead coral rubble, sand, coral live with seagrass vegetation dominated by Thalasia hemprizii and Enhalus acuroides. Meanwhile, habitat conditions at other locations have suffered a severe damage and dominated by dead coral. Environmental conditions in the study region were within the limits of decent support for the growth of macro alga. Keywords: macroalga, biodiversity, density, frequency, dominance, Ambalau

Abstract

Research on biodiversity and biomass of macroalgae in Kotania Bay waters, West Seram, Mollucas was conducted on July and August 2010. There were 20 species of macroalgae collected, in which 8 species were green algae (Chlorophyceae), 6 species of brown algae (Phaeophyceae), and 6 species of red algae (Rhodophyceae). The highest biomass of algae were collected in Loupesi, as much as 127,01 g/m2, followed by Burung Island (119.42 g/m2), Wael (63.43 g/m2), and the lowest were found in Buntal Island (20.64 g/m2). The macroalgae found in sampling area were dominated by Halimeda, Padina and Sargassum. The highest biomass were found on Sargassum duplicatum (570.00 g/m2), Halimeda opuntia (271.33 g/m2), Gracillaria crassa (198.13 g/m2), and Sargassum crispivallum (178.00 g/m2).   Keywords: Macroalgae, biodiversity, biomass, Kotania Bay, West Seram. Abstract

ABSTRACT The study of water quality and macroalgae community in Jikumerasa coast, Buru Island, Maluku, was conducted in June 2014. This study aims to determine the water quality in terms of physico-chemical parameters and community structure of macroalgae. Physico-chemical parameters observed are the essential parameters for the livelihood of macroaelgae ecosystem such as temperature, salinity, water clarity, current, pH, dissolved oxygen, phosphate and nitrate. The result showed that water quality in these waters still within the water quality standard threshold for marine biota (KMLH, 2004) and still in the optimum range for growth of macroalgae. 21 species of macroalgae were found with varying density between 0.25 ind./m2-1.13 types ind./m2. The highest biomass were found in Gracilaria salocornia, which reached 1132.00 g/m2. Macroalgae diversity index (H ') were average, ranged from 2.716 to 2.978 and dominance index (D) were categorized as low, ranged from 0.0539 to 0.0697, while the index of uniformity (e) were ranged from 0.9754 to 0.9796, categorized as evenly distributed or stable. Keywords: Water quality, macroalgae, Community Structure.
