Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine the diversity of crabs in the mangrove ecosystems in Natuna waters, Riau Islands. The study was conducted on 23 October to 5 November 2014. The crabs were collected from eight research stations using random method, by putting a transect quadrant of 1 x 1 m2 on an area of 10 x 10 m2 area at each mangrove observation station. Results obtained 274 individuals, from 21 species, 11 genera and 8 families. Crabs of the family Sesarmidae most diverse with 8 specie: Clistocoeloma sp., Nanosesarma edamensis, Parasesarma leptosoma, Parasesarma sp1., Perisesarma cf. brevicristatum, Perisesarma semperi, Perisesarma sp1. and Sarmatium crassum. Based on quantitative analysis, the index value of diversity ranged from 0.932 – 2.028, with the highest value obtained at Cemaga Utara (St. NTNM02). The eveness index  in the range of 0.579 - 0.881 with the highest eveness at Cemaga Selatan (St. NTNM01).

Abstract

Observation of crustacean fauna in Anambas Islands waters was conducted from 20 May to 4 June 2002. The selected locations were Ranap Island, Matak Island, Pemutus Island, Akar Island, and Jemaja Island. The aim of this study was to know the diversity and evenness of the crustacean species. Sampling was conducted by applying quadrant transect and other collections. Forty one species of crustaceans, representing 14 families, were collected from those selected locations including 23 species that were collected from transect area. The results showed that diversity index of the crustacean fauna was 0.65 to 0.98 and species evenness was 0.85 to 0.98. Based on the species diversity index, all those selected locations could be said as having low diversity.

Abstract

KNOWING Ashtoret lunaris (FORSKAL, 1775) FROM MATUTIDAE (CRUSTACEA: DECAPODA: BRACHYURA). Ashtoret lunaris is a species of genus Ashtoret from Matutidae. This crab is known as “yellow moon crab”, because it has a yellow and rounded carapace like a full moon. These crabs are nocturnal and live in coastal areas with soft substrate. The crab has a wide distribution spanning from the Red Sea to South Africa, Asia and Australia. Some biological aspects such as morphology, systematic, habitat, feeding habit, distribution and others are discussed in this paper.
