Abstract

ABSTRACT Snakehead is one of fishery commodity that has a good market prospect and potential to develop as a culture fish. One of the problem in rearing of snakehead was low in survival rate. In the begining of rearing, snakehead did not respond to commercial food, because of that many culturists have not succeeded on rearing snakehead in intensive culture. Mixing of snakehead and tilapia in one pond or polyculture will affect feeding respond to commercial food. The aim of this research was to determine survival rate and growth of snakehead reared as polyculture system with tilapia due to different density percentage and similar size of snakehead and tilapia. The research held in Laboratorium Budidaya Perairan, Aquaculture Study Program, AgriculturalFaculty, Sriwijaya University in November to December 2014. The research was designed using 5 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were P1 (100% snakehead), P2 (75% snakehead and 25% tilapia), P3 (50% snakehead and 50% tilapia), P4 (25% snakehead and 75% tilapia) and P5 (100% tilapia). The result of the research showed that different density percentage was not significantly different in survival rate and growth of snakehead. The highest survival rate of snakehead 83.3% was shown by treatment of 100% snakehead (P1). The highest survival rate among polyculture treatments was found for 75% snakehead and 25% tilapia (P2) namely 79,1%, and the lowest value 74,7% was indicated by treatment of 25% snakehead and 75% tilapia (P4). The highest absolute weight growth and absolute length growth  was shown by treatment of 100% snakehead (P1) namely 2,61 g and 1,9 cm, respectively the highest absolute weight growth and absolute length growth among polyculture treatments was indicated by treatment of 75% snakehead and 25% tilapia (P2), which were 2,51g and 1,8 cm, and the lowest values were 2,39 g and 1,7 cm for 25% snakehead and 75% tilapia treatment (P4).   Key word: snakehead, tilapia, population percentage, plastic pond

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study were to know the effect of giving rice bran fermented using tape yeast for population growth of  Daphniasp. and to know the concentration of rice bran to increase populationsof Daphnia sp.. This study was conducted in the Laboratorium Dasar Perikanan, Aquaculture Program Study, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya from July until September 2014. This study used randomized completely design method with five treatments and three replications. The treatment for culturing Daphnia sp. using chicken manure and rice bran fermented as feed. The treatments wereA (0.0005 g chicken manure.mL-1 culture media (control)), B (0.1 g.mL-1 rice bran fermented), C (0.15 g.mL-1 rice bran fermented), D (0.2 g.mL-1 rice bran fermented), E (0.25 g.mL-1 rice bran fermented). The parameters observed were the high population on firstcycle, the population growth, long  time of the peak population Daphniasp. andphysics chemistry water. The result showed that fed rice bran fermented using tape yeast culture of Daphniasp. give effect to density, population growth, reached the long time population of Daphniasp. culture. The highest population density and growth rate in the culture of the Daphnia sp., using concentration 0.1 g.mL-1rice bran fermented. Keywords: Daphnia sp., rice bran, fermented, chicken manure, population growth

Abstract

ABSTRACT Biofloc is a water quality management technology by heterotrophic bacteria development and control, so as to increase the carrying capacity of cultivation media. Good medium carrying capacity can increase the stocking density of fish in aquaculture. The research objective is to determine the stocking density on the rearing catfish (Pangasius sp.) with biofloc technology. Rearing was on May –  June 2015 in Aquaculture Laboratory, Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture. Research using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consists of  five treatments that stocking density 100 fish.m-3 without biofloc technology (G0), 100 fish.m-3 (G1), 200 fish.m-3 (G2), 300 fish.m-3 (G3), and 400 fish.m-3 (G4) with biofloc technology. The results showed, stocking densities 400 fish.m-3 can still be applied, with the average growth in absolute length of 4.55 cm, growth in absolute weight of 16.82 g, 88.33% survival rate, and 106.5% feed efficiency.   Key words : Catfish, Biofloc, Stocking density

Abstract

ABSTRACT Biofertilizer is a material derived from living organism, particularly microbes, which are used to improve the quality and quantity of growing media and plants. In this case is a liquid biofertilizer that is derived from living organism and refers to the results of microbiological processes. Fertilization activities in the field of fisheries is done to help the maintenance media as ground pond in providing nutrients directly to the fertility of the pond. One of the microbes that exist in liquid biofertilizer is Bacillus sp.. Bacillus sp. can maintain stable water quality by reducing excess amonia concentration on the media. This research was conducted in December 2014 to January 2015 at Laboratorium Budidaya Perairan, Program Studi Akuakultur,Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sriwijaya, Inderalaya. This research was conducted using CRD (completely randomized design) is seven treatments of biofertilizer additions with three replications. Based on observations during the research, concluded that the addition of biofertilizer did not significantly affect the viability of the seeds of catfish fry that needs to be done further research on the mechanism of action of biofertilizer is working to help the fertility of the soil or water of the pool maintenance media or to both. Keywords :biofertilizer, catfish fry, survival rate
