Abstract

Deinking process of old newspaper by using cellulase-hemicellulase has been done. The old newspaper was beated, then at 4 % consistency, pH 5, and temperature 400 C, an enzyme was added with the dosage of 0,05-1,5 %. After reacting for 60 minutes the mixture was diluted and collector was added to catch the ink particles and then followed float for 20 minutes. The floating particle was scraped and the fibre was washed with fresh water until neutral pH and made as a sheet with 55 g/m2 grammage. A part of the fibre was bleached with peroxide before made as a sheet The optical and the physical properties including a dirt count, brightness, opacity, tensile index, tear index and elongation were tested. The experiment results showed the increase in the optical and the physical properties from the deinking sheet product. After bleaching process the optical properties increased, but the physical properties tended to decrease. The use of enzyme at 1% dosage gave the best result. The 0,05% enzyme dosage for the unbleached deiked pulp and 0,5% enzyme dosage for the bleached deiked pulp was able to fulfil the terms specification of newspaper according to SNI 14-0091-1998.

Abstract

Bio-deinking as one of the alternatives has many advantages if compared with conventional deinking method. It might reduce time of pulping, the chemical consumption, the environmental pollution and keep better quality of paper produced. In this experiment there were two kinds of commercial enzyme, that is α-amylase with variety levels 0.25%-0.5%, acted in degrading of starch layer originated from surface sizing. And cellulose with variety levels 0.5%-2% that will degrade the ink on surface of fiber. The results showed that the use of  α-amylase and cellulase for deinking of mixed waste paper could increase the berghtness, as well as the strength of sheet that produce and decrease of the dirt count.Keywords: mixed waste paper, enzyme, deinkingINTISARI Bio-deinking sebagai salah satu alternatif dalam proses penghilangan tinta pada kertas bekas memiliki banyak kelebihan jika dibandingkan dengan metode deinking konvensional. Diantaranya mengurangi waktu pulping, mengurangi konsumsi bahan kimia, mengurangi polusi lingkungan dan menjaga hasil kualitas kertas yang lebih baik. Pada percobaan ini digunakan dua jenis enzim konvensional yaitu α-amylase dangan variasi penggunaan 0,25%-0,5%, yang akan bertindak sebagai pendegradasi terhadap lapisan pati yang terdapat pada bahan pendarih permukaan. Dan selulase dengan variasi penggunaan 0.5%-2% yang akan mendegradasi permukaan serat yang terkena tinta.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan α-amylase dan selulase untuk deinking pada kertas bekas campuran dapat meningkatkan derajat putih, menurunkan jumlah noda dan meningkatkan kekuatan lembaran yang dihasilkan.Kata kunci: kertas bekas campuran, enzim, deinking
