Abstract

ABSTRACT This study deals with the figures of speech used in the lyrics of Westlife’s Selected Songs. The objectives of the study are to describe the types of figures of speech used inWestlife’s Selected Songs, to derive the figures of speech usedin Westlife’s Selected Songs,and to reason why they are  found in Westlife’s Selected Songs . The research was conducted by descriptive qualitative design. The data was the lyrics ofWestlife’s Selected Songs, the data were collected from 10 songs that has figures of speech.  The data were analyzed by identifying and classifying the figures of speech displaying the result in a table. Then these figures of spech was described in details. It was found that there was eight types of figures of speech which used; they areSimile 27,71%, Metaphor 21,70 %, Personification 1,20 %,Synecdoche 1,20 %, Metonymy 7,23 % , Symbol 4, 81 %,  Hyperbole 33,75 % and Paradox 2,40 %.The most frequent type of figures of speech used in the lyrics of Westlife’s Selected Songs was Hyperbole.   Keyword :Literature , Figures of Speech,Song

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study deals with code-mixing used by presenters on VISI FM. The objectives of this study are to : (1) find out the forms ofcode-mixing, that are used by VISI FM’s presenters. (2) find out the form of code- mixing that is dominantly used by VISI FM’s presenter. This research applied descriptive quantitative method.The object of this study is presenter of VISI FM namely Deris and Lia. The tape recorder is used for collecting the data where the utterence of presenters were recorded while presenting that program.After collecting the data, the writer found that forms of code mixing occured in the presenters’s utterances are code mixing in forms words, phrases, and sentences. Code mixing in form of word is dominantly used by male presenters namely Deris, where the percentage of the occurrence of code mixing in his utterances are 255 code mixing, where there are 29 code mixing in form of sentences, 92 code mixing in form of phrases, and 133 code mixing in form of words and code mixing in form of sentence is dominantly used by  female presenter namely Lia where the percentage of the occurrence of code mixing in her utterances are 184 code mixing occured where there are 82 code mixing in form of sentences, 44 code mixing in form of phrases, and 58 code mixing in form of words.     Keyword        : Code Mixing

Abstract

Abstract This study deals with the improvement of the students’ achievement by using Outline technique. This research was conducted by applying classroom action research in two cycles. The subject of this research was one of a class in the first year student of SMU Yayasan Pendidikan Sultan Iskandar Muda. There were 35 students that participated in this research. The quantitative and qualitative data were gahtered in administrating  writing test and diary notes. The result of quantitative data obtained that the score of the students inproved from cycle I to cycle II which the mean of the pre-test was 70.6, the test of cycle I was 75.8, and the test of cycle II was 85,2. The result of the quanlitative data described that the using of the Outline technique help to improve the students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph.   Key Words : writing, writing achievement, paragraph, outline, references.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study attempts to Improving Students’ Vocabulary achievement Trough Word Webbing Technique. The objective of the study is to discover whether the use of word webbing technique could significantly improving students’ vocabulary. This study conduct by applying Classroom Action Research which was carried out in two cycles in six meetings. The subject of this study of SMPN 4 Takengon, Aceh Tengah which consisted of 40 students. The quantitative data were collected by using observation sheet, questionnaire sheet and diary field. Based on the vocabulary test score, students’ score kept improving in every test. The mean of students’ score cycle (80) was higher than the fist cycle (67,75) and orientation test (55.25). based on observation sheet, questionnaire sheet and diary field, it was found that teaching learning process ran well. The students were more active and more enthusiastic during the teaching learning process in the second cycle than the first one. The result of the research showed that is use of word webbing technique significantly improving students’ vocabulary. Keywords : Word Webbing Technique, Action Research

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study attempts to improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph through simultaneous roundtable strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-5 SMP N 2 Berastagi consisting of 30 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and consisted of seven meetings. The instruments for collecting data were writing tests as the quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet as qualitative data. Based on the writing score, students’ scores kept improving in every test. In the first cycle test, the mean of writing score was 61,43. In the second cycle test the mean of writing score was 75,13. Based on diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that students were actively involved in writing process. The result of the research showed that Simultaneous Roundtable Strategy can improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph.   Keywords: Simultaneous Roundtable, Writing, Dscriptive Paragraph, Action
