Abstract

Mobile devices like Smartphones, tablets and PDAs have become an indispensable part of every person’s day to day activities. The growth and propagation of the smartphones has created new opportunities for religious app developers to develop apps that will provide utilities and an easy accessibility to religious information. The purpose of this research is to conduct a survey and to classify Islamic apps that are available on Google Play Store. The user surveys were conducted to evaluate and investigate the usage pattern of the Islamic apps in everyday life of the Muslims. The results identify the need of authentication of the app content that gives rise to many critical issues and myths. Also, it stresses the need for a “Religion” category in Google Play Store. The benefit of this research is twofold, as it focuses on identifying which app features Muslim users are more interested in using and secondly, the Islamic apps/features that need to be developed.

Abstract

Abstract : The trend of using mobile devices for the purpose of learning is gaining momentum. Apart from traditional education, various applications are being developed for religious learning. Pakistan is inhabited by around 98% of Muslims.  Hence, the informal learning of Islam is essential for Muslim child development. This research presents a usability study of different Islamic learning mobile applications available on the android platform for children. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the usability of different Islamic learning mobile applications for children of diverse age groups in order to understand what design principles must be followed that increase the usability of the application. The main focus of this research is to observe and evaluate how easily children of different age groups respond to different applications, how effectively the children understand the core features of the applications and how easily they are able to use the application by themselves.

Abstract

More recently, big data tools and technologies have been applied in the agriculture sector leading to major benefits. Many frameworks have been proposed that employ big data technologies in the field of agriculture, however, such existing frameworks are focused on a particular aspect of agriculture and do not consider multiple stakeholders and applications. The objective of this research is to develop a holistic framework named Agri-PAD that encompasses almost all aspects of agriculture including crop selection, crop monitoring, soil monitoring, weather conditions, precision farming, and market demand. The Agri-PAD framework includes three major categories of machine learning based agriculture applications that is precision, recommendation, and enterprise applications. The Agri-PAD framework is capable of providing remote sensing of fields, precision farming, effective supply chain, and support informed decision making leading to enhanced productivity. To validate the efficacy of the proposed framework, the two most prominent agricultural applications, crop production forecasting and crop harvesting recommendation have been investigated and accuracy of 99% has been achieved. We believe that the Agri-PAD framework enables all stakeholders in the agriculture cycle to connect and apply big data analytics at every step leading to a more efficient and smarter agriculture ecosystem.

Abstract

Whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is an emerging nature-inspired, swarm-intelligence based algorithm to solve optimization problems more efficiently. This algorithm is based on the bubble-net hunting strategy of the humpback whales. It has gained immense popularity among researchers, typically, due to its simple nature, fast convergence, and having minimum parameters. In the recent past, it has been widely adopted in various fields including data mining, machine learning, wireless sensor networks, cloud computing, civil engineering, and power systems due to its optimal performance. The WOA has given competitive results in comparison to the state-of-the-art optimization algorithms. In this study, we aim to present a comprehensive survey of WOA consisting of more than eighty existing variants of WOA. More specifically, we intend to put forward key aspects of WOA variants with reference to modifications and applications. Further, we classify the most dominant variants of WOA in distinct categories based on modification area such as equation modification, parameter tuning or the problem space for which an algorithm has been specifically altered. We believe that this study will be beneficial for the community working on optimization problems and it can serve as a basis for understanding the modification and improvement process of an optimization algorithm.
