Abstract

Nets can help students conceptualize the relationship between two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects. But there are still inaccuracies in composing the webs caused by weak spatial ability. The purpose of this study is to describe the spatial ability of students in constructing cube and beam webs. The research subjects were forty-fifth-grade elementary school students. Of the forty students, two students were chosen to be interviewed more deeply related to the completion of the task of the cube nets and the beam. The results showed that in completing the task of arranging cube and beam nets, the subject showed weaknesses in the ability of spatial orientation and spatial visualization. Weaknesses in spatial orientation are seen in the subject's ability to see objects from a certain point of view, namely in recognizing two nets that are congruent but considered incongruent while the weaknesses of spatial visualization are seen when subjects cannot imagine that the webs can be folded into cubes and blocks.

Abstract

Mathematical communication skills are the main capital in solving math problems. Mathematical communication skills help students in conveying ideas or solutions to a mathematical problem in the form of oral, written, and picture. The research objective is to identify student errors in solving mathematical communication problems. The type of research is descriptive qualitative so that the researcher is the main instrument. Technical data analysis in this research is descriptive qualitative data analysis technique of Miles and Huberman model with stages of data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing and verification. The data reduction stage aims to select, focus, discard unnecessary data and simplify raw data from the results of student error analysis. The research subjects were students of class VIII A SMP Negeri 2 Tanjung Palas Utara. The research showed that the students did not make reading errors but made mistakes in understanding, transforming, processing skill, and solving mathematical communication problems.

Abstract

This study aims to find a substantive theory about learning a new paradigm for mathematics in the Vocational High School (SMK) curriculum in Bulungan District, North Kalimantan Province. To achieve this goal, the researcher chose a qualitative research method with a case study approach. The unit of analysis for this study is the school community (curriculum vice chief, mathematics teacher, and vocational students) who are carrying out the teaching and learning process at vocational schools. To obtain the necessary data, interviews, observations, and documentation analysis were carried out. The data obtained were then analyzed using the pattern matchmaking technique as recommended by Robert K. Yin. The findings of this study are that mathematics has a strategic position in the SMK curriculum. This strategic position is that there is a change in the position of mathematics from national content to the 2013 curriculum to vocational basics in the independent curriculum. In addition, learning mathematics in vocational schools still needs to be varied to achieve competencies that are expected to help students use facts, principles, concepts, and procedures that are relevant to their vocational skills.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the improvement of science learning outcomes by applying the RODE learning model. The subjects in this study were 19 students in the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Karang Intan in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. Three observers assessed the RODE model implemented by the science teacher in her class on hydrostatics pressure material in the first cycle and Archimedes' law material in the second cycle. The Four pretest-posttest questions calculated the students' science learning outcomes. The success criterion of this study was that ≥ 75% of the research subjects obtained a score of ≥70. The data analysis used mode scores on observation data and pretest-posttest results for each cycle. According to the data analysis results, Teachers can apply the RODE learning model very well, with the mode score increasing from 3 in the first cycle to 4 in the second. 100% of students' science learning outcomes increased, with a mode score of 5 becoming 70 in the first cycle and a mode score of 30 becoming 100 in the second. Thus, the RODE learning model enhanced the science learning outcomes of eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Karang Intan.

Abstract

Mathematical disposition (MD) is widely recognized as a key factor influencing students’ performance, particularly in mathematical literacy (ML), which is emphasized in Indonesian education through the Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum (AKM), a national assessment focusing on literacy and numeracy. However, most studies rely on quantitative approaches, offering limited insight into how MD is enacted during problem-solving in classroom contexts. This study explores how MD is enacted by students with high ML when engaging in mathematical literacy tasks. Using a qualitative multiple-case study design, five senior high school students were purposively selected. Data were collected through written work, self-assessments, observations in individual and group settings, and two phases of interviews, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that MD emerges as a dynamic, context-sensitive system involving curiosity, confidence, persistence, flexibility, and reflection. Although all students produced correct solutions, their depth of engagement varied depending on how these dispositions were activated and regulated. Collaborative settings reshaped MD by redistributing confidence and enhancing participation, but also introduced challenges, such as reduced verification due to overreliance on group agreement. These findings suggest that ML provides the cognitive foundation for problem solving, while MD mediates its enactment.     Keywords: Mathematical Disposition; Mathematical Literacy; Problem-Solving; Qualitative Study; Task-Based Learning.
