Abstract

Assessment on the Control of Dry Blight Nutmeg Fruit (Stigmina myristicae (Stein.) Mand.-Sum. et Rifai) in Tidore Island. North Maluku is one of the nutmeg central areas with its productivity of 0.25 t per hektar. Low productivity is due to the high invation of dry blight desease on nutmeg fruit of appoximately 50 percent. The assesment was aimed to optain the production technology to control effectively dry blight desease, increase production, and enhance farmers income. The assessment was conducted at Jaya village, Tidore Kepulauan city, North Maluku Province from March to November 2006 by applying before and after application approach. The number of cooperator farmers were twelve people, each farmer have ten nutmeg tree which were productive and more than 15 years old trees. Introduction technology package were mechanism technis + cultural + chemical and were comparised to farmers technology. The observation parameter is fresh fruits number, infected fruits number, desease intencity, nutmeg fruit production and farmers response to technology. Technically and financially technology properness were measured using R/C, B/C and MBCR indicators. The result of the assessment was the introduction technology package to control effective dry blight desease of until 28.7 percent, increased nutmeg fruit production 76.1 percent and increased income 76.1 percent. Abstract

Coconut land in North Maluku is potential to implement polyculture farming. Corn and soybeans are food commodities that can be used as intercrops among coconut stands to increase farmers' income. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of land productivity and farming of polycarbonate systems under coconut stands as well as farmers' preferences for cultivation technology innovation. The research was carried out from May to October 2018 on coconut land owned by farmers in Bumirestu Village, East Halmahera Regency, North Maluku. The study applied integrated crop management (PTT) of corn and soybeans under coconut stands using VUB and fertilizer treatment. The analysis was used to answer the objectives, namely the calculation of land equality ratio (LER), RC ratio, and farmers' perceptions. The results showed that coconut-corn intercropping increased 92% of the efficiency of land productivity with a value of LER 1.92. Intercropping of soybeans increases 76% of land productivity efficiency with a LER value of 1.76. The increase in profits of coconut farming from the intercropping pattern of coconut - corn is Rp. 7,495,800/harvest with R/C 1.89 while from the intercropping pattern of coconut - soybean is Rp. 4,402,000/harvest with an R/C value of 1.55. Farmers' perceptions of technological innovations overlapping corn-coconut and coconut-soybean showed a positive perception. Farmers assume that technological innovations in intercropping corn-soybeans under coconut stands are beneficial, in accordance with the values and needs of the community, have low complexity, are easy to implement, and the results are significant.ABSTRAKLahan kering kelapa di Maluku Utara berpotensi untuk penerapan usahatani polikultur. Abstract

Sexava coriacea is the most important pests on coconut in North Maluku. The insects known as coconut treehoppers cause damage to foliar defoliation. S. coriacea attacked coconut crops in Sula-Mangoli Islands first reported by C Willemse in 1930. The reports of the pest monitoring program over the last ten years showed symptoms of moderate attack levels on the leaves which could be controlled. In 2022, there were another pests outbreaks in Halmahera and Sula Islands that inflicted serious leaflets damage on coconut. The research aimed to study the development and distribution of S. coriacea on coconut plantations in the Maluku Islands. The study was used a purposive sampling method in the planting area which showed symptoms of an attack and the presence of the pest target. The pest specimens obtained were identified by morphological characteristics. Leaf damage level obtained was further developed with five categories; healthy, mild, moderate, severe, and very severe. The results showed S. coriacea found in Galela, Sahu, Bacan, and Sanana. Damage rates of coconut crops were calculated in North Halmahera reached 76-100%; West Halmahera reached 26-50%; South Halmahera reached 1-25%; and Sula Islands reached 51-75%.
