Abstract

Santa Barbara Acid-15 (SBA-15) merupakan material mesopori yang berpotensi sebagai pengemban katalis dan adsorben. Pembentukan SBA-15 umumnya menggunakan TEOS (tetraetilortosilikat) dan TMOS (tetrametilortosilikat) sebagai sumber utama silika. Sumber silika alternatif yang mulai dikembangkan pada pembentukan SBA-15 adalah limbah biomassa yang memiliki kadar SiO2 tinggi. Telah dilakukan review tentang karakteristik fisik dan kimia SBA-15 berbasis limbah seperti abu daun bambu petung, abu sekam padi, jerami gandum, abu daun tebu, abu terbang batubara dan tambang tailing, sebagai sumber utama silika. SBA-15 dari berbagai jenis limbah memiliki struktur heksagonal yang memiliki luas permukaan yang tinggi (411 – 955 m2/g), volume pori besar (0,50 – 2,89 cm3/g) dan, diameter pori besar (4,8 – 14,2 nm). Pola XRD SBA-15 berbasis limbah menunjukan tiga puncak dengan nilai indeks miller 100, 110 dan 200. Morfologi SBA-15 bervariasi seperti struktur cylindricals, struktur fiberlike dan struktur rods. Spektra Inframerah SBA-15 menunjukan adanya gugus fungsi yaitu Si-OH dan Si-O-Si. SBA-15 dari berbagai jenis limbah memiliki karakteristik fisik dan kimia yang dapat dibandingkan dengan SBA-15 dari TEOS dan TMOS. Kata Kunci : SBA-15, limbah, TEOS, TMOS.

Abstract

A study on the synthesis and characterization of mesoporous silicas SBA-15 (Santa Barbara Acid 15) from bamboo leaf ash. SBA-15 from bamboo leaf ash leaves was synthesized by modification of the microemulsion template method. SBA-15 was characterized by N2 adsorption/desorption analyzer, SAXS (Small Angel X-Ray Difraction), FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). N2 adsorption/desorption analyses showed that SBA-15 has type IV isotherms, with H1 type hysteresis which was a characteristic of mesoporous materials. ​​SBA-15 from bamboo leaf ash has surface are (calculated by BET method) of 698 m2 / g, pore volume of 0.81 cm3 /g and pore diameter of 4.66 nm. In the difractogram appeared 3 typical peaks of SBA-15 between 0.5 - 5o 2θ with miller indices (100), (110) and (200), respectively. The FTIR spectrum showed peaks from siloxane (Si-O-Si) and hydroxyl groups (-OH). The SEM pictures showed that the morphology of SBA-15 was a combination of platelets and spheres with the average particle size of 0.5 μm. Kata kunci: Bamboo leaf Ash, SBA – 15
