Abstract

Mangrove plants have ability to remove excess of salt and contain secondary metabolite to adapt to wide salinity. The purpose of this study was to determine the best salinity level for growth of A. marina seedlings and to evaluate the effect on long-chain polyisoprenoid composition. A. marina seed was used with 5 treatments,-i.e 0%, 0.5%, 1.5%, 2%, and 3% grown for 3 months. Results showed that the optimum growth characterized by height, number of leaves, wet weight of root, wet weight of shoot, dry weight of root, dry weight of shoot, and ratio of shoot to root of A. marina seedlings in 2% concentration. The optimum of diameter was in 0% salinity. Polyisoprenoid showed that A. marina seedlings in 3% salinity was higher content than control. Key Words               : Mangrove, Avicennia marina, Salt Salinity, Polyisoprenoid, Secondary Metabolite.

Abstract

Mangrove is one of the richest bioactive source naturally and is able to remove excess of salt. The purpose of this study was to determine optimum salinity concentration for growth of S. alba seedlings and to evaluate effect of salinity on polyisoprenoid composition. S. alba seedlings were used  with 5 treatments namely 0%, 0,5%, 1,5%, 2%, and 3%  grown for 3 months. Results showed that optimum growth for S. alba seedlings characterized by height, diameter, and dry weight of root in 1,5% salinity, the best number of leaves and moisture content of root were  in 0,5% salinity. On the other hand,  dry weight of shoot, moisture content of shoot, and ratio of shoot to root were found in 3% salinity, respectively. Analysis of Polyisoprenoid in S. alba seedlings in 3% salinity was higher concentration than 0% treatment. Key words : mangrove, Sonneratia alba, salinity, polyisoprenoid

Abstract

Indonesia is currently the largest producer palm oil in the world with its production about 33.000.000 ton/year in 2014. This research is dealing with potency and quality of palm oil types of dura, pisifera and tenera based on time storage of fruit (0, 7, 14, 21, 28 days). The research was performed on August to December 2014, in Bangun Bandar plantation, Dolok Masihul, North Sumatera. Parameters measured for oil potency was crude palm oil (CPO) content and for quality of palm oil were β-carotene content, deterioration of bleachability index (DOBI),  free fatty acid content, and moisture content β-carotene content and DOBI were analyzed by Spectrophotometer at 446 nm and 269 nm. Free fatty acid was determined by titration, and moisture content was measured by an electronic moisture analyzer.  Results showed that potency of palm oil types of dura, pisifera, tenera were 23,5 %, 26,2 %, 23,6 %, respectively. β-carotene content and DOBI of palm oil types of dura, pisifera, and tenera were decreased by time storage of fruit. Free fatty acid and moisture content of palm oil types of dura, pisifera, and tenera were increased by time storage of fruit. Based on the results, time of storage of fruit affected poorly in quality of palm oil. Keywords: palm oil, quality, potency, type of oil palm.

Abstract

Palm oil producing oil is one of the famous of oil palm plantations as a source of producer non- petroleum oil for Indonesian foreign exchange. Superior varieties of palm oil produced by various research institutions that is tenera originated crossly from dura x pisifera (DxP). Pisifera has an important function in the production of seed of oil palm. Pisifera population is very important to be managed and developed . A RAPD is a method to identify a number of large polymorphism DNA in the genome quickly, efficiently and suitable for the study of genetic diversity. The purpose of this research is to analyze genetic diversity on pisifera type of palm oil by three population namely Yangambi origin, LaMe origin and LaMe silang lanjut in  Bangun Bandar seed productions PT Socfin Indonesia analyzed by RAPD markers. Eighteen  sample for each pisifera population of Yangambi origin, LaMe origin and LaMe silang lanjut showed moderate level of genetic diversity which is shown the average value of 0.24 with the highest was 0,28 and the lowest value was 0.21. The percentage of highest polymorphic on the primer 15 and primer 19 of LaMe origin which reached 100%. The Polymorphic information content (PIC) highest on the primer 11 was on Yangambi origin and primer 10 was laMe silang lanjut of 0.49, while to the lowest PIC on primer 21 of LaMe origin was 0.01.Key words: Palm oil, Elaeis guineensis Jacq., RAPD, genetic diversity

Abstract

Effect of salinity on the growth and composition of long chain polyisoprenoid in A. officinalis was studied in the greenhouse, Faculty of Agricultural and forest ecology laboratory, University Sumatera Utara. Research was started from July to December 2014. A. officinalis seedlings were used with five levels of salinity namely 0%; 0.5%; 1.5%; 2% and 3% and  grown for 3 months. The optimum result was mostly obtained at a rate of 0% salinity, height growth of seedling was at 2% salinity, diameter growth of seedlings was in salinity 0%, the number of leaves was at 0% salinity, leaves area was at 0% salinity, wet weight and dry of leaves, roots and stems were at  0% salinity respectively. On the other hand, ratio of shoots to roots was at 0% salinity. One-dimensional plate thin-layer chromatography (1D-TLC) analysis of the three months of A. officinalis could not find the dolichol content. Keywords : Mangrove, Avicennia officinalis, salinity, morphology, polyisoprenoid.
