Abstract

Test of resistance of some varieties of corn (Zea mays L.) on leaf rust (Puccinia polysora Underw.)on lowland. The aim of the research was to know the resistance of some varieties of corn (Z. mays)on the leaf rust (P. polysora) on lowland. The research was conducted at Tanjung Selamat village,Medan. The research used cluster random design with ten treatments and three repetitions. Theresults of the research showed that the varieties of resistance were found in the varieties of Pioneer12, Bisi 12, Bisi 12, SHS 2. SHS 12, and DK 3. Tolerant varieties were found in the varieties ofPioneer 23, BISI 2, NK 22, and NK 99. The highest production was found in BISI 12 (6.51 tons/ha)and the lowest production was found in Pioneer 23 (4.02 tons/ha).Keywords : varieties of corn, Puccinia polysora Underw., leaf rust, varieties of resistance

Abstract

Index of Insect Varieties on Tobacco Plant (Nicotiana tabaccum L.) at Kebun Helvetia, PTPNusantara II. Deli tobacco is a strategic commodity in Indonesia. Especially used to cigar wrapper(most quality) that make job vacancy and increase people prosperity. Pests and plant diseases intobacco plant was the most problem each cultivating season. By knowing insect status in tobaccoarea hoped can do preventative on next cultivating season. The objective of this research was tostudy index of insect varieties in the tobacco plant (Nicotiana tabaccum L.) at Kebun Helvetia withwas to know kind of usefull insect, useless insect, parasitoid and predator in that area. Researchconducted at Kebun Helvetia PT Nusantara II, Medan on May – June 2012, using design surveiwith take diagonally which first sample was taken in the middle of sample block. The result ofresearch showed that in Block D was consist of 15 useless insect family, 2 parasitoid family, 7predator family and 6 usefull insect family. Block E area consist of 15 useless insect family, 3parasitoid family, 8 predator family, and 8 usefull insect familiy. Shanon-Weiner (H’) highestIndex varieties value of insect highest in Block E area is 2.3486 (medium) that meaning natural andpest insect existence was balance nearly.Keywords : index of varieties, insect in tobacco, tobacco.

Abstract

Temperature Effect TowardsVirulency ofColletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz. Sacc. FungalDisesase Caused of Anthracnose on Cocoa(Theobroma cacaoL.).This research aims to determindvirulency level, disease incident and temperature effect towards fungal morphology growth of C.gloeosporioides fungal disesase caused of anthracnose oncocoa (Theobroma cacao L.). The studywas conductedat Karang Anyar village, regency in Langkat with altitude±28masl, at Sambirejovillage, regency in Langkat with altitude±28masl, at Bekukul village, regency in Deli Serdang withaltitude±100 masl, at Sayum Sabah village, regency in Deli Serdang with altitude±200 masl and atthe Laboratory ofPlant Disease, Agroecotechnology Program Study, Faculty of AgricultureUniversity of Sumatera Utara, Medan from July to December 2012.The method of this research issurvey.Results showedthat highest attack percentage was founded in Sambirejo villagewhich reach100% and thelowest was founded in Sayum Sabah village which reach 95%, highest diseaseseverity was founded in Bekukul village which reach 92.0% and thelowest was founded in KarangAnyar village which reach 78.6% and showed no differences fungus morphology that extractedfrom four different location.Keywords: C. gloeosporioides,virulency, morphology, temperature, cocoa

Abstract

ABSTRACT Endophytic fungi are known be able to produce secondary metabolites that often impact on the growth of its host, such as enhance its growth and increasing the resistance of plant to biotic and abiotic stress condition. This research was aimed to isolate and test endophytic fungi which have potency as biocontrol agents against Rigidoporus microporus on rubber tree. The research was conducted at Plant Disease Laboratory, Program Study of Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas of Sumatera Utara, Medan from September 2017 to February 2018. It was done by using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) Non Factorial.  The results indicated there were 8 genus of fungi  (Rhizoctonia sp., Penicillium sp., Gliocladium sp., Trichoderma sp., Aspergillus sp., Rhizopus sp., Mucor sp. dan Fusarium sp.) from roots of rubber tree in Asahan that have potency as biological agent to control R. microporus in rubber tree. The best results were obtained on genus Aspergillus sp. with inhibition zone was 81,11%.
