Abstract

The growth of oil palm seedlings (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) by the application of rice husk andfrequency of watering in the main nursery. This research aims to study aimed to determine thegrowth of oil palm seedlings to rice husk and watering frequency on the main nursery. This researchwas conducted in Greenhouses in the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatera, Medanwith ± 25 m altitude above sea level in January 2013 to April 2013 using a factorial randomizedblock design with two factors: Media planting rice husk (0:0, 2: 1, 1:1, 1:2) and watering frequency(1, 2, 3 days) parameters measured were plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, total leafarea, fresh weight of seedlings, seedling dry weight. The results showed that treatment of rice huskgrowing media influence is not obvious to all treatment parameters. Watering frequency treatmentssignificantly affected stem diameter parameter 2 and 6 MST with the highest yield obtained in thetreatment of the frequency of watering every other day. Both treatment interaction effect was notsignificant on all treatments. Keywords: palm oil, rice husk, watering

Abstract

The objective of this experiment is to determine the response adding to the coumarin in to microtuber production of potato plantlets (Solanum tuberosum L.) varieties of granola. The research wasconducted at Tissue Culture Laboratory Experiment Berastagi where the surface level is atapproximately at ± 1340 m above sea level. The experiment was started on October 2013 untilFebruary 2014 using a completely randomized factorial design with two factors. The concentrations ofcoumarin was (0,000; 0,025; 0,050; and 0,075 gram/l) and the volume of coumarin was (30, 60, 90,120 ml). Parameters observed were the percentage of plantlets which produces micro tubers, thepercentage of plantlets were dead, the number of tubers on each micro planlet, the weight of tuberson each micro planlet, weight of each micro tuber, and diametres of tuber in each planlet. Theresults showed that adding of coumarin concentration into micro-tuber production of potatoplantlets was significantly affected the percentage of plantlets which produces micro tubers (1 BSAand 2 BSA) and the diameter of micro tubers of each plantlet. Adding of coumarin volume intomicro-tuber production of potato plantlets significantly affect on the percentage of plantlets whichproduces micro tubers (1 BSA and 2 BSA), the number of tubers on each micro planlet, the weightof tubers on each micro planlet, weight of each micro tuber, and diametres of tuber in each planlet.Key words : potatoes, production, micro tuber

Abstract

The objective of this experiment is to determine the respons in growth and yield of watermelon(Citrullus vulgaris Schard.) to Gibberellins and TSP fertilizer. This experiment was conducted atland of Pasar I Street No. 89, Tanjung Sari, Medan with the level approximately ± 25 inabove sea level, starting from May to December 2013 using factorial randomized block design withtwo factor, i.e. gibberellin (0, 100, 200 and 300 ppm) and TSP fertilizer (60, 80and 100 g/plant). Parameter observed were plant height, days to flowering, weight of fruit andnumber of seed. The result showed that gibberellin concentration affect significantly to the numberof seed and weight of fruit and giving up to 200 ppm gibberellin treatment on fertilizer TSP 80g/plant significantly speed up the age of harvesting. Keywords : gibberellin, TSP fertilizer, watermelon

Abstract

The aim of the research was to identify growth characters of shallot var. local samosir with gammarays irradiation. Research was conducted at the Jl. Selamet Ketaren, Medan with a height of 25meter above sea level began from April until July 2014. Bulbs of shallot were exposed to severaldoses (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 Gy) using Co60 source. Differencies of growth characters (shoot length, leaf number and tiller number per clump, harvest time, fresh and dry weight of bulb per plant, bulbdiameter and average weight per bulb) was analyze by t test using minitab v.16. The results showedshoot length 6 weeks after planting (WAP) were shorter 1.97cm, 2.38cm, 3.1cm, 4.73cm and4.49cm at doses 2,3,4,5,6 Gy; leaf number 2 WAP were reduced 35.16% and 39.24% at dose 5 and6 Gy, meanwhile tiller number 6 WAP was increased 13.88% at dose 6 Gy respectively comparedto control. Fresh weight and dry weight of bulb were lighter 30,39% and 37,04% at doses 5 Gy and38,52% and 47,44% at doses 6 Gy; average weight per bulb were lighter 23,2%, 47,64% and47,98% and bulb diameter were smaller 11,48%, 25,48% and 30,41% at doses 4,5,6 Gy respectivelycompared to control.Key words : Shallot var samosir, gamma rays irradiation, doses
