Abstract

Moral decadence that befalls most students in Indonesia is very alarming. The moral values which are expected belong to themselves increasingly decline. It is proven by the brawl among students, pregnant out of wedlock, drug abuse, and the persecution on the teachers significantly increase. By using analytical-descriptive method, this study concerns to the character education in KH. M. Hasyim Asy‘ari’s perspective taken from his book entitled Âdâb al-‘Âlim wa al-Muta‘allim which is focused on the students ethics in studying, including ethics in learning, student’s ethics to the teacher, and student’s ethics in dealing with the lesson. The result of this study shows that character education in KH. M. Hasyim Asy‘ari’s perspective has a harmony even precedes a number of values within character education materials of the Research and Development Agency, Curriculum Center of the Ministry of National Education, Indonesia. Thus, it can be developed within character education discourse that is being carried out and it can produce the knowledgeble students and also having good personalities.[Krisis akhlak karimah yang menimpa mayoritas peserta didik di Indonesia semakin memprihatinkan. Nilai moral yang diharapkan ada dalam diri mereka semakin terkikis, sehingga mengakibatkan tawuran antarpelajar, siswa hamil di luar nikah, penggunaan narkoba semakin merajalela, serta penganiayaan siswa terhadap guru yang bahkan sampai berujung kepada kematian sang guru. Dengan metode analitis-deskriptif, penelitian ini mengkaji tentang pemikiran KH. M. Hasyim Asy‘ari tentang pendidikan karakter dalam Âdâb al-‘Âlim wa al-Muta‘allim yang difokuskan pada etika peserta didik dalam menuntut ilmu, yang mencakup etika dalam belajar, etika siswa terhadap guru, dan etika siswa dalam menghadapi pelajaran. Penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa pemikiran KH. M. Hasyim Asy‘ari tentang pendidikan karakter selaras bahkan mendahului sejumlah nilai dalam materi pendidikan karakter dari Badan Penelitian dan Pengembangan, Pusat Kurikulum Kementerian Pendidikan Nasional, Indonesia, sehingga bisa dikembangkan dalam wacana pendidikan karakter yang sedang marak dilakukan dan bisa mencetak peserta didik yang tidak hanya berilmu luas tetapi juga berkarakter]

Abstract

Many students get difficulties in speaking English because of a weak soft skill they have, such as motivation, creativity, and self-confidence. Therefore, lecturers’ role in inserting soft skill in teaching speaking is essential because learning success is influenced more by soft skill than Intellectual Quotient. This study discussed kinds of soft skills inserted by lecturers in teaching speaking, the ways of lecturers insert them, and how those soft skills help students speak English. This study used qualitative approach by descriptive research design. The data are obtained from English lecturers and TBI students at the third semester of STAIN Pamekasan, period 2014/2015 by observation, field note, interview, and documentation. The results revealed that there are kinds of soft skills inserted by the lecturers, such as self-perceptions, motivation, perseverance, metacognition, social skill, and creativity. Whereas, the ways lecturers insert them are by using classroom discussion, reward, telling story, teacher talk, ordering students to perform drama, microteaching, asking students to use name tag, and sometimes lecturers use the same way in the next meeting if the previous materials have not finished. Those soft skills contribute to the students’ speaking skill, such as making them more communicative, more interactive, and used more various language.

Abstract

 Islamic schools are expected to be a means to achieve the goals of Islamic education. Therefore, they should not focus on religion field only, but they should be balanced by science. It is because of the goals of Islamic education guide us to achieve the happiness of the world and here after. So that, Islamic schools should be able to facilitate millennial generation by Islamic religion and science in order to produce the graduates who are knowledgeable and having good character. In addition, they are also expected to produce the competitive graduates. Therefore, this paper will discuss about the goals of Islamic education, and how the Islamic schools, focusing on madrasah should design their curriculum for millennial generation to achieve the goals of Islamic education. Correlating of this statement, Curriculum for MI and MTS should focus on transferring knowledge and forming character, whereas, curriculum for MA should focus on life skill training besides both of those competencies. Nevertheless, the implementation of curriculum will be achieved maximal when it is supported by headmaster who will be able to manage their human resources.
