Abstract

Abstract: Good quality velvet beans and zinc supplement are well studied and known as rich source ofaphrodisiac. The following reseach was carried out to study the difference effect of zinc supplement (ZS)and velvet bean extracts (VBE) towards fertility of BALB/c mice i.e the number of sperm, the motility ofsperm, the viability of sperm, the morphology of sperm, the existence of vagina plug, and the birthcondition of mice. This study was an experiment using Posttest Only Controlled Group Design with threegroups. The first group (A1) as control, the second group (A2) receives subcutaneous injection of 2-methoxyethanol fraction as much as 200 mg/kg weight/day for 5 days, followed with ZS at a dosage of0,026 mg/day/head, and the third group (A3) receives subcutaneous injection of 2-methoxyethanolfraction as much as 200 mg/kg weight/day for 5 days, followed with VBE at a dosage of 56 mg/kg weight/day for 30 days. The quality of spermatozoa of A1, A2, and A3 was significant difference (p < 0.05).Both of A2 and A3 were no significant difference of mean number of sperm (p = 0.274), mean percentageof sperm motility (p = 0.739), mean percentage of sperm viability (p = 0.141) and mean value ofmorphology of sperm (p = 0.394). The quality of spermatozoa and the total number of baby mice livedand died of A1, A2 and A3 were significant difference. In addition, there was no significant differencein the existence of female mice's vaginal plug of A1, A2 and A3. This study showed that ZS and VBE canincrease the quality of spermatozoa of BALB/C mice.

Abstract

 This study aims to determine the relation between energy intake, fat, fiber, and physical activity to visceral fat in Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo employees. This study involved 165 educational employees using simple random sampling technique. Data collection was conducted directly using a physical activity questionnaire, 3x24 hour food recall, and anthropometric data. The data was then statistically processed using Microsoft Excel, Nutrisurvey, and the SPSS. The data analysis were carried out using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis, and Spearman Rank Correlation. Based on the results of the Pearson correlative test, it was found that there was a relationship between energy intake and visceral fat (p value 0.05), while for fat intake, fiber, and physical activity did not have a significant relationship with visceral fat (p 0.05). The results of this study indicate that energy intake is positively correlated with the visceral fat while intake of fat, fiber, and physical activity is not correlated with the visceral fat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan asupan energi, lemak, serat dan aktivitas fisik dengan visceral fat pada pegawai Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo. Responden pada penelitian ini adalah 165 pegawai tenaga kependidikan dengan menggunakan simple random sampling. Pengambilan data dilakukan secara langsung menggunakan kuesioner aktivitas fisik, food recall 3x24 jam, dan pengukuran data antropometri. Data kemudian diolah secara statistik menggunakan Microsoft Excel, Nutrisurvey, dan Statistical Program for Social Science (SPSS). Analisis statistika yang dilakukan adalah uji normalitas dan uji korelasi. Uji normalitas data dengan uji Kolmogorov-Smirnov, kemudian dilanjut uji analisa Korelasi Product Moment Pearson. Berdasarkan uji korelatif Pearson didapatkan hasil bahwa terdapat hubungan antara asupan energi dengan visceral fat yang dibuktikan dengan nilai p 0,05. Adapun untuk asupan lemak, serat, dan aktivitas fisik tidak memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan visceral fat (p 0,05). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa hanya asupan energi yang berkorelasi positif dengan visceral fat sedangkan asupan lemak, serat, dan aktivitas fisik tidak berkorelasi.
