Abstract

Background: In everyday life activities human beings need prime conditions to create functional motion. One factor that interferes with functional motion is pain. The goal of physiotherapy for people with pain is to relieve pain. Many of the physiotherapy modalities recommended for reducing pain include phonophoresis. But the phonophoresis modality has not been widely implemented in Indonesia. Objective: To determine the effect of phonophoresis on reducing knee pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: This study was a pure experiment with a pre-test and post-test with control group design. The study subjects were patients with knee osteoarthritis who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. From the number of patients who came to the physiotherapy polyclinic of Dr Moewardi Hospital Surakarta, they would be randomized to the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group will get standard therapy at Dr Moewardi Hospital Surakarta plus phonophoresis, while the control group only gets standard therapy from the hospital. The independent variable is the administration of phonophoresis and the dependent variable is a decrease in knee pain. Statistical analysis using t-test. Results: Of Phonophoresis and standard therapy can reduce knee pain. More pain occurs in phonophoresis. Conclusion: Phonophoresis can be selected as a therapy to reduce pain in people with osteoarthritis

Abstract

Background: While performing daily activities, the incidence of myogenic low back pain (LBP) is experienced by many people. Physiotherapy technology in the form of dry needling and laser after both have received core stability exercise has not been widely applied in physiotherapy measures to reduce pain in complaints of myogenic low back pain. Therefore, further research is needed to compare the effectiveness of dry needling and laser with a combination of core stability exercises on low back pain myogenic complaints. Methods: Experimental study design with two groups of pre-test and post-test designs. The research was conducted in 2021 at Sunafa physiotherapy practice, Colomadu, Karanganyar. Subjects with myogenic low back pain complaints who met the study criteria. Analysis of the research data obtained, the data is not normally distributed, therefore tested with a non-parametric test, namely the Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney test. Results: Has the effect of dry needling with core stability exercise on pain reduction in myogenic low back pain complaints (p = 0,000), has the effect of a laser with core stability exercise on pain reduction pain in myogenic low back pain complaints (p = 0,000), there is a different effect between dry needling and core stability exercise and laser with core stability exercise to reduce pain in myogenic low back pain complaints (p = 0.002), dry needling with core stability exercise was more effective than laser with core stability exercise in reducing pain in myogenic low back pain complaints with a mean difference of 8.94 mm more significant in the group I. Conclusion: Dry needling is more effective than laser after both have undergone core stability exercise to relieve pain with myogenic low back pain complaints equations. So dry needling is preferable to laser in the treatment of myogenic low back pain.

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) complaints are prevalent that many people experience daily. Dry needling physiotherapy technology for myogenic LBP complaints has not been widely used in the clinical setting than laser. In contrast, it turns out that the application of laser for pain cases was not effectively socialized. In this study, the efficacy of dry laser needling was compared after the addition of myofascial release for myogenic LBP complaints. The research method was experimental study used two groups before and after the test design. The subjects were determined by reasoned sampling. The subjects were all patients with complaints of myogenic LBP who met the research criteria. The number of subjects in group I was 37 subjects, and group II was 36 subjects with myogenic LBP. The research was conducted from March to October 2020 at Sunafa physiotherapy practice, Colomadu, Karanganyar. There was a significant effect of dry needling with the myofascial release on pain reduction in patients with myogenic LBP (p=0,000). Also, there was a significant effect of laser with the myofascial release on pain reduction in patients with myogenic LBP (p=0,000). Dry needles and laser after adding myofascial release effectively reduce pain in patients with myogenic LBP.
