Abstract

The problem in this research is about how to assess the aesthetics and functions of craft art in Indonesian city public space compare to other cities in other countries. It is also about how these craft arts can be used to improve the aesthetics and strength a city’s identity. Approaches used in this research are aesthetic theory and sociology of art. Aesthetic theory is used to assess the craft art textually or intra aesthetics. Sociology of art theory is used to see how craft art role can fulfil its function as a medium for craftsperson to participate in creating an art work that is useful to the society, so the existence of craft art in public space can give positive impacts towards the urban society. Results of this research is a positive impact of the craft art existence in some Indonesian public places where craft art becomes a city icon or identity with a special symbol attached to it; as a sign of historical or contemporary works. It also creates the aesthetics of a city design to be more humanist and healthy for all citizens.

Abstract

Relational aesthetic identified by a Tranch theorist and cumtor, Nicolas Bourriaud, has been anemerging art movement that consistent in fudging artworks on the basis o f the inter human relationso f which they represent or produce. Instead o f the artists' capability, the Relational aesthetic places theaudiences or viewers to be the key factor fo r the success o f an exhibition or performance. The number o fcontemporary artists who exercise performative and interactive techniques- which rely on others, evensometimes strangers- is growing. Without any participation from the others, there will be no art -worksprotluced.A critical thought from an art history professor, Claire Bishop, makes the development o f therelational aesthetic in the art worid even more dynamic, both socially and artistically. She studied what typeo f relation being engaged, fo r whom and fo r what reasons.Keywords: relation, audience, participation

Abstract

Transformasi yang ada dan terjadi pada ranah kriya saat ini merupakan sebuah konsekuensi dari pengaruh informasi dan teknologi global yang berdampak di berbagai bidang. Aplikasi teknologi tinggi pada proses perwujudan bidang kriya menjadikan produk kriya bertransformasi menjadi karya yang kaya karena memadukan unsur seni, teknologi, ekonomi, budaya, personal dan tangan. Pada era industri kreatif dimana kriya menjadi salah satu sub sektornya, transformasi yang ada adalah keniscayaan karena secara tidak langsung merefleksikan bagaimana kondisi sosio cultural masyarakat yang ada. Selain tentu saja sebagai upaya meningkatkan pendapatan karena produk yang dihasilkan bersifat inovatif dan distingtif. Topik tulisan ini menarik untuk dikaji karena melihat sisi lain dari transformasi yang ada di seni kriya.Transformasi tersebut tentu dilihat positif dan memberikan keuntungan bagi masyarakat dan kriyawan Indonesia.Temuan dari tulisan ini adalah bagaimana sinergi yang kuat antara berbagai pihak seperti pengrajin, kriyawan, akademisi, praktisi dan pemerintah akan menghasilkan karya kriya berkualitas, sustain, dan mampu bersaing di pasar global tanpa meninggalkan akar kultur yag dimiliki bangsa Indonesia.
