Abstract

Seventeen traditional medicinal plants of South East Sulawesi are collected at Arboretum Prof. Mahmud Hamundu Universitas Haluoleo, have been determined successfully by Herbarium Bogoriense staffs, Cibinong Bogor. The plants came from Konawe and KonaweSelatan districts. Endemicity of those plants as medicinal plants were based on ethnobotanical study using information from “Tokoh Masyarakat Tolaki” and “Tokoh Masyarakat Jawa”. Collected traditional medicinal plants at those places, but have not known in Java, are assumed as specialized plants of Tolakinese. All of the plants were determined at Herbarium Bogoriense. Moreover, detailed study of those plants including biology, chemistry and pharmacy aspects were done by electronically literatures study using science direct programmed. According to the literatures, Sterculea cf. oblongata R.Br. and Talinum triangulare Willd have not been reported the research yields. Key words: Traditional medicinal plants, Konawe, Konawe Selatan, and Tolakinese.

Abstract

Nine resveratrol oligomers have been isolated from the stem bark of Hopea mengarawan i.e. diptoindonesin D (1), balanocarpol (2), ampelopsin A (3), hopeaphuran (4), heimiol A (5), parviflorol (6), a-viniferin (7), isohopeaphenol (8), and vaticanol B (9).The structures of these compounds were determined based on spectroscopic evidence such as UV, IR, 1-D, 2-D NMR and comparison with the reported data. Those compounds implied that Hopea tends to produce resveratrol dimers. Moreover, in subgenus level, besides ampelopsin A (3) and isohopeaphenol (9), resveratrol oligomers in H. mengarawan the same as in H.dryobalanoides. It indicated that H. mengarawan and H. dryobalanoid.es came from the same subgenus.

Abstract

Isolation and identitication of secondary metabolites from root of Jatropha gossypyolia, and also its biological activity test toward microbes and tumor cells have been conducted, Isolation was carried out by using vacuum liqiud chromatography (VLC) method (adsorbent: silica gel, eluent: mixture of n-hexane, ethylacetate, chloroform, and methanol). The isolate molecular structure Was determined by spectroscopic technique i.e. FTIR, NMR-ID, 13C-DEPT, NMR-2D, comparing the data obtained with related data from literatures. Its biological activity was evaluated against bacteria (Acetobacter sp., Escherecia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus sp.), fungi (Aspergillus nigcr, Pentcillium sp. [grey], Penicillium sp. [White] and Rhizopus sp.), and murine leukemia P-388 cells. The results showed that the isolate is a white needle crystal which is identified as jatrophone. Jatrophone is very active toward Acetobacter sp. (bacteria) and A. niger (fungi) with growth inhibition Zone of 3,6 cm and 4.4 cm, respectively. Meanwhile, jatrophone has low activity against murine leukemia P-388 cells with IC50, > 100 µg/mL.
