Abstract

Epidemiological studies have shown an in-verse correlation betweendiets rich in po-lyphenols, flavonoids and reduced risk of cardiovasculardisease. These associationswere mainly ascribed to the antioxidant, antiaggregation and anticholesterol capa-city of polyphenols. This association has been explained that atherogenesis is ini-tiated by hypercholesterol, lipid peroxida-tion and hyper aggregation platelet. The research was carried out to evaluate anti-oxidant, anticholesterol and antiaggrega-tion activities of methanol extract and frac-tions of black tea (Camelia sinensis). To evaluate antioxidant activity of methanol extract and fractions were compared  with (-)-Epigallocatechine 3-gallate (EGCG), an-ticholesterol activity were compared with simvastatin and antiaggregation activity were compared with aspirin. Antioxidant activity using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hy-drazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging acti-vity at two concentrations 100 µg/mL, 50 µg/mL and anticholesterol was cholesterol oxidase activity at two concentrations 0.005 µg/mL, 0.0025 µg/mL, the antiag-gregation  activity  used epinephrine (EPN)agonist at two concentrations 300 μM, 75 μM and one concentration 37.1 µg/mL of methanol extract and fractions of black tea. To know the difference of treatment, the data were analysed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and be continued Dun-can’s new multiple range test. The results showed that DPPH scavenging activity were high (88.59-93.556%), the anticho-lesterol showed high activity (93.663-97.434%) and the antiaggregation sho-wed low up to high activity (79.967-4.31%). Using Duncan’s new multiple ra-nge test showed that anti-oxidant activity were not different among extract and fractions of black tea,the highest anti-cholesterol activity was black tea extract 0.005 µg/mL (97.434%) and the highest antiaggregation activity was ethyl acetate fraction on 75 μM EPN agonist (4.310 %), water fraction 37.1 µg/mL with 300 μM EPN agonist (21.833%).

Liver cancer is the fifth most common cancer in Indonesia. This research is to find out the prevalence and characteristics of liver cancer patients in Immanuel Hospital Bandung within the January 2013 until December 2014 period based on age, gender, clinical symptoms and predilections. This study was a descriptive verificative research with data retrieval of patients medical records that have been diagnosed with liver cancer that were hospitalized in Immanuel Hospital Bandung within January 2013 until December 2014 period. The study showed that the liver cancer patient prevalence in Immanuel Hospital Bandung within the period of January 2013 until December 2014 was 46 people. Characteristics of liver cancer patients in Immanuel Hospital Bandung within January 2013 until December 2014 period showed that the most liver cancer patients were male, compare with female with ratio 4:1, the most common age group of 56-65 years old, the most common clinical symptoms were abdominal pain with or without reffered pain to the right scapular bone and the most common predilection was right lobe of the liver. Key words: liver cancer, patients' characteristics, prevalence

Abstract

Lung cancer is a disease which has high incidence and mortality rate. It makes lung cancer become one of the biggest public health problems. The aim of this study is to find out the description of lung cancer patients in Immanuel Hospital Bandung from January 2013 to December 2014 based on the prevalence, gender, age, clinical features, metastasis, and mortality percentage. The method design was a descriptive retrospective method with data retrieval and collection of patient medical records that have been diagnosed with lung cancer in Immanuel Hospital Bandung from January 2013 to December 2014 period. This study showed that lung cancer prevalence was 51 patients, the majority of patients were males compared to females with the ratio of 2.7:1, the most common age group was 61–70 years old, the most common clinical features were dyspnea and cough, the most common site of metastasis was liver, and the mortality percentage was 33.33%.Keywords: Immanuel hospital Bandung, lung cancer, patient’s description

Abstract

Hypertension is commonly found in obesity patients. Age affects the occurrence of hypertension. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of obesity on blood pressure levels in early adulthood males (<35 years) and middle adulthood males (?35 years). This is an observational analytic study using data from medical check-up records of male adult office workers in Bandung. The data was analyzed with Mann-Whitney test (? = 0.05) and Chi-Square to find the odds ratio (OR). The results showed that out of 110 data in medical records, there were 79 (71.82%) obese and 31 (28.18%) non-obese. In early adulthood males (<35 years) there is no significant difference between non-obese with obese in systolic blood pressure (p=0.779) and diastolic blood pressure (p=0.779). In middle adulthood males (?35 years) there was a highly significant difference between non-obese with obese on systolic blood pressure (p=0.001) and diastolic blood pressure (p=0.003). There was a significant relationship between obesity and hypertension (p=0.048) with OR=3.73. In conclusion, in early adulthood males (<35 years) obese does not have an effect on the development of hypertension, while in middle adulthood males, obesity increases the risk of developing hypertension by 3.73 times.
