Abstract

Abstract -- Some researchers have observed the mechanical characteristics of composite with strengthening by corn skin fibre reinforcement. However the combination of strength stress and water absorption of composite with corn skin fibres needs more exploration due to wide of its application particularly in the wet environment. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of fraction of the composite fibre to the tensile strength and moisture absorption. The main materials of this research are polyurethane as matrix and corn skin fibre as reinforcement. The research was done by mixing matrix and fibre at the certain volume fraction to produce the composite specimens. Specimens were tested by tensile test with ASTM D 3039 and water absorption test. The results shown that the higher fraction of the fibre, the increase the tensile strength. While for the water absorption, the absorption behaviour is affected by the expansion of polyurethane during producing the specimens.

Abstract

Fiber-reinforced composite core banana stems with additional filler of husk powder is another way to obtain the expected mechanical behavior of the composite. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of fiber volume fraction content to density, bending strength and tensile strength of sandwich composite.   Preparation of composite was done by hand lay-up method. Composite material used by banana ketip  fiber and addition of husk powder with variation of fiber volume fraction were 7, 10, and 13 % where husk was constant at 5% with random fiber direction. Tests were conducted by referring to the density est standard (ASTM C 271), bending est (ASTM C 393) and tensile test (ASTM D3039).  The result showed that the greater volume fraction of banana fiber, the lower the density value and the lower the bending strength. Whereas the tensile strength tended to increase as the volume fraction was higher.

Abstract

The use of composites from hybrid materials requires further research in particular with respect to their mechanical properties. The purpose of this research was to know the effect of volume fraction of fiberglass and coconut husk to the bending strength of composite sandwich hybrid. The main ingredients of this research were sengon sawdust as a composite core, fiberglass and coconut husk, with unsaturated polyester resin as matrix. Specimens were prepared with varying volume fractions of 10%, 20% and 30% for skins of fiberglass and coconut fiber and then were tested with bending tests. The results showed that the greater the volume fraction, the greater the bending strength beside that it also reduced the failure of the composites.

Abstract

The batik industry is an important sector in the Indonesian economy and culture, employing a large workforce in informal positions. However, unergonomic work postures, long working hours, and inappropriate tools are the main causes of the high incidence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in batik industry workers. This study emphasizes the importance of systematically applying ergonomic principles to improve the health and productivity of batik artisans in Indonesia. This study contributes by comparing the effectiveness of various ergonomic methods in the specific context of the traditional batik industry, which has not previously been systematically discussed, and by evaluating the ergonomic interventions that have been implemented. The method used was a PRISMA-based Systematic Literature Review, which included searching, selection, bibliometric analysis, and qualitative discussion. After being filtered, 19 articles were further analyzed. The study results show that ergonomic methods such as NBM, REBA, and RULA are the most widely used to evaluate work posture and the risk of MSDs. Key findings indicate that the most common complaints occur in the neck, shoulders, back, and wrists. The most effective interventions include improving work equipment according to anthropometry, work posture education, task rotation, and implementing active rest.

Abstract

AbstractSmall businesses in Ambung Hamlet, Masbagik Timur Village, still face production efficiency challenges due to the use of traditional tools in cassava chip processing. The manual cassava cutting process is time-consuming, produces uneven slices, and increases the risk of workplace injuries. This community service activity aims to improve the productivity of small business partners through the implementation of cassava-cutting tools based on appropriate technology. The activity methods include field observations, tool preparation and assembly, training on tool usage, education on the benefits of the technology, and the handover of tools to small business partners. All stages were conducted in a participatory manner so that partners could understand, use, and maintain the tools sustainably. The results of the activity show that the use of the cassava cutting tool increased cutting capacity from 8–10 kg/hour using manual methods to 22–26 kg/hour after the tool was used, or approximately 2.4–2.8 times higher. The cutting time for 10 kg of cassava also decreased from about 60–75 minutes to 23–27 minutes. In addition, the slices became more uniform, labor requirements were reduced, and the risk of injury during production was minimized. This program demonstrates that simple innovations based on appropriate technology can improve the efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness of small cassava processing businesses. Keywords: small business; cassava cutting tool; appropriate technology; productivity; Ambung Hamlet.
