Abstract

Character education is a purposeful, proactive attempt to develop good character in students or, more simply, to teach students about the right and the wrong. In relation to character education, the purposes of this study were to find out teachers’ perceptions on character education and their strategies to implement it in the classroom. In addition, this study also investigated the teachers’ problems in implementing character education and their proposed solution. The participants of this study were two teachers of English at one of public senior high school in Palembang and the students from two classes which taught by the two teachers. The data of this study were collected through questionnaire, interviews, classroom observation and document review. The result of this study showed that the teachers agreed that character education was important to be applied during teaching and learning program through the strategies such as group discussion or individual assignment. Students’ personal characters and behaviors stated by the teachers as the problem in teaching the character education and having a communication with students and observing them during teaching and learning process were mention as the ways to solve the problem.

Abstract

Professionalism is an important thing that every people should have if they want to succeed and move ahead. In teaching world, professionalism is also important. Professionalism in teaching means the professional teachers who have been qualified where they can face the difficulties in teaching by the skills and experiences they have. Teaching English for young learners is not as easy as what people think, the teachers of young learners must be aware of children’s basic physical and psychological needs, they should provide the care necessary to meet the needs so they can thrive and focus in learning. Most of English teachers of primary school are graduated from the primary school teacher education (PSTE) where they have enough skill in teaching young learners but they do not have enough knowledge English. This problem can caused the students get lost if the teachers are not properly skilled and professional.

Abstract

The most important part of an organization, an institution or a school is the leadership and the person who did it called the leader. The leader is someone who can give big influence and also inspire the subordinate. Leadership is people-driven and the ability to inspire people helps to achieve the set goals of an organization (Lahti, 2013). Most of organization is sometimes lead by a male leader. Only a few that leads by the female leader. People believe that male is better than female in leading an organization. Kuchynkova (2015) reported that men tend to be more logical and rational with the requisite toughness, while women are more intuitive, sensitive and predisposed towards change and diplomacy. The writer conducted a descriptive qualitative study for this mini research. This study was conducted in order to get the teacher’s perception of female manager leadership style.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out (1) wether or not there was any difference in 10th grade students of SMA Srijaya Negara reading comprehension after they are taught by applying tableau and (2) there was any significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the 10th grade students of SMA Srijaya Negara Palembang who are taught by using Tableau in learning narrative text and those who are not. This study used 66 students of the tenth grade students of SMA Srijaya Negara Palembang as the sample which was divided into two group, experimental and control group. Students in experimental group were given the treatment through tableau in learning narrative text. This study used one of quasi-experimental design that were pretest and posttest non equivalent control group design. The result of reading comprehension test was analyzed by using SPSS 21.0 program. The result indicated that there were any significant differences at level 0.05 found in the data which were analyzed by using paired sample t-test (t=6.670 > t-table=1.694). The result also showed that the application of tableau in teaching narrative reading could improve students’ reading comprehending of 10th grade students of SMA Srijaya Negara Palembang.
