Abstract

Background: Children with low birth weight tend to have a higher risk of experiencing abnormal growth and developmental delays. While the risk of developing obesity in the later years is higher in children with high birth weight. Physical and psychological conditions can affect the quality of life of adolescents.Objective: To analyze the association between birth weight and quality of life in early and middle adolescents.Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 120 students aged 13-16 years in Semarang City in which a consecutive sampling method was used.  The study was conducted in August 2020. Research subjects need to fill up the PedsQL, PAQ, birth history, and socio-economic questionnaires. Statistical analyses used were Chi-square and logistic regression tests.Results: Birth weight was significantly associated with quality of life (p=0.002). A history of abnormal birth weight increases the risk of experiencing poor quality of life as a teenager (p=0.002; OR=3.987). Low birth weight was associated with decreased physical function (p=0.001), whereas high birth weight was associated with reduced social and school functioning (p=0.013; 0.032). Gender was significantly associated with quality of life (p=0.016). Girls tend to have a higher risk of experiencing poor quality of life (p=0.021; OR=4.021).Conclusion: Birth weight has a significant association with quality of life in early and middle adolescents. Adolescents with a history of LBW or HBW were more likely to experience decreased quality of life than adolescents with a history of NBW.Keywords: Adolescence, Birth weight, Quality of Life.

Abstract

Background. Pneumonia is an acute lung parenchyma inflammation, which includes the alveoli and tissues. According to RISKESDAS 2018, pneumonia prevalence of children under five years old in Indonesia has increased from 1.6% in 2013 to 2% in 2018. Cytomegalovirus infection (CMV) is the most common congenital infection and causes high morbidity in newborns. The purpose of this case is to report a case in Semarang and conduct a discussion of pneumonia cases and a history of CMV infection so that proper treatment can immediately start.Method. Anamnesis carried out on February 1, 2020, at Government Hospital in Semarang. Data obtained from allonamnesis with the patient's mother, physical examination, supporting examinations, and medical records of patients. Case. Patient of a boy aged one year nine months that come to the ER with a chief complaint of fever and cough.Discussion. A boy aged one year nine months with fever and cough complaints about five days before entering the hospital. Sputum culture examination revealed the presence of Klebsiella pneumonia, then treated with cefoperazone sulbactam. The patient had a history of cytomegalovirus infection but not optimally treated because of the high avidity value.Conclusion. Patient has diagnosed with bronchopneumonia et causa Klebsiella pneumonia.

Abstract

Background: Febrile seizures are seizures associated with fever during childhood that most often occurs in children ages six months-five years, with a peak incidence of 18 months Although febrile seizures generally have a good prognosis, they can signal an underlying serious acute infectious infection. This report aims to present a case of febrile seizures associated with the underlying extracranial infection in Semarang.Method: This report describes the anamnesis, physical examination, and supporting examination in patients with febrile seizures.Case: A 2-year-old boy coming to the ER with complaints of seizures that accompanied by fever, When the child seizures are unconscious, after the seizures the child cries.Discussion: The patient came with seizures accompanied by fever three times before being taken to the hospital, the duration of the seizure ± 10 seconds, with a range of ± 2 hours between the first, and the next seizures, twitching convulsions throughout the body, eyes glared upwards, when the child got the seizure, he was unconscious, and after a seizure, the child cries. Three days before, the child had a fever and a cough with yellowish phlegm. On physical examination, It was found ronchi in both lung fields. From x-ray obtained bronchopneumonia picture. Patients diagnosed with complex febrile seizures and bronchopneumonia.Conclusion: Patients were diagnosed with complex febrile seizures and bronchopneumonia, treated for six days, and sent home because the patient's clinical condition improved. Infection is associated with the incidence of febrile seizures.

Abstract

Latar belakang. Diperkirakan setiap tahunnya terjadi peningkatan prevalensi gangguan tidur sesuai dengan peningkatan usia dan berbagai faktor penyebabnya. Paparan media elektronik berlebihan dapat berpengaruh pada masalah kesehatan. Penelitian di 5 negara termasuk Indonesia tahun 2012 menunjukkan bahwa lebih dari 80% anak usia 10-13 tahun telah memiliki akses telepon selular pribadi. American Academy of Pediatrics menyarankan durasi paparan media elektronik pada balita dan anak prasekolah selama 1 jam atau kurang dan remaja selama 2 jam atau kurang per hari.Tujuan. menganalisis hubungan antara durasi paparan media elektronik dengan munculnya gangguan tidur pada anak usia 10-13 tahunMetode. penelitian belah lintang dengan subjek penelitian dari beberapa SD di Semarang pada April – Juli 2019. Subjek penelitian melengkapi kuesioner 3DPAR) untuk menilai durasi paparan media elektronik serta orangtua mengisi kuesioner SDSC untuk menilai gangguan tidur. Analisis bivariat menggunakan uji Chi-square dengan nilai signifikansi p<0,05.Hasil. Dari 90 responden didapatkan 76 responden (84,4%) dengan paparan media elektronik lebih dari 2 jam perhari dan terdapat 65 responden (72,2%) mengalami gangguan tidur. Terdapat hubungan bermakna antara durasi paparan media elektronik dengan gangguan tidur. Kesimpulan. Durasi paparan media elektronik lebih dari 2 jam perhari memiliki hubungan yang bermakna dengan gangguan tidur anak usia 10-13 tahun.
