Abstract

Learning process using project based learning model on statistical material in the 11 th grade of accelleration science class of SMAN 1 Tanjung is expected to increase student understanding. The purpose of this research is to improve the activity and student achievement. This study uses classroom action research design with 2 cycles. Each cycle consists of phases of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were students of the 11th  grade of accelleration science class in SMAN 1 Tanjung consisting of 21 students. Research instrument is observation sheet and students achievement test. From the results can be concluded that: (1) student activities increased, that is activity of: (a) asking from 31.79% in cycle 1 to 60% in cycle 2, (b) answering questions from 41.54% in cycle 1 to 80% in cycle 2, (c) finding answers by his/her own knowledge from 58.57% in cycle 1 to 70% in cycle 2, (d) collecting the assignment from 45% in cycle 1 to 50 % in cycle 2, (e) finding answers collaboratively from 14.76% in cycle 1 to 60% in cycle 2, (f) finishing group assignment collaboratively from 78.09% in cycle 1 to 80% in cycle 2 . Some activities such as (a) student focus to listen teacher explain, (b) taking note, (c) the use of ruler, bow and draw diagram, (d) using book to find the answers, (e) doing teacher assigment, and (f) presenting the group work collaboratively, has reached 100% in cycle 1 to cycle 2, (2) student achievement increased from 70 on average in cycle 1, to 80 in cycle 2.Key words : Project Based Learning, statistic
