Abstract

AbstrakBell’s palsy adalah kelemahan perifer pada otot wajah, bersifat akut, ipsilateral, berhubungan dengan kelumpuhan nervus fasialis dengan penyebab yang tidak diketahui. Terdapat lima teori penyebab etiologi Bell’s palsy, namun teori virus, yakni reaktivasi infeksi laten herpes virus di ganglion genikulatum yang menyebar ke saraf fasialis, merupakan teori yang paling banyak dibahas menjadi penyebab utama. Pemahaman mengenai anatomi nervus fasialis yang baik dan penegakkan diagnosis dini serta penatalaksanaan yang tepat merupakan kunci keberhasilan dalam penyembuhan dan pencegahan komplikasi akibat Bell’s palsy. Kata kunci: Bell’s palsy, nervus fasialis, diagnosis AbstractBell’s palsy is an acute, ipsilateral, peripheral paralysis of the facial nerve that results in weakness of the facial expression muscles with unknown etiology. From fve theories of Bell’s palsy aetiology, viral theory, which is reactivation of herpes virus in geniculatum ganglion that spread to the facial nerve, is more discussed than others. The well knowledge of facial nerve anatomy and early diagnosis is the key success of medical treatment, as well as prevention of the long-term complication caused by Bell’s palsy.
