Abstract

Kata kunci: blastosistosis, travel medicine, transmisi oro-fekal, diare, feses Abstract Blastocystis hominis is the most common protozoa found in human feces and transmitted through oro-fecal. Until now, the role of B. hominis as a cause of gastrointestinal infections remains unclear. In tourists, the presence of these protozoa is often a problem especially those traveling to the tropics. The clinical symptoms of this infection are vary from diarrhea, fever, nausea and vomiting to dermatological disorders. Diagnosis can be made by microscope examining the feces wet preparation under and Jones culture medium or Löwenstein–Jensen medium. The treatment for tourists also still a debate, some researchers state that this infection is considered as self-limiting disease. The use of metronidazole and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole showed good results for B. hominis eradication. Preventions for tourists who traveling to the tropics can be done by avoiding foods and beverages contaminated by B. hominis. Keywords: blastocistosis, travel medicine, oro-fecal transmission, diarrhea, feces

Abstract

Floor cleaning disinfectant is one of the tools that is used to prevent worm infections. The disinfectants used in this study were; combination of alcohol ethoxylatesodium lauryl ether sulfate, carbol-pine oil, benzalkonium chloride-ethoxylate fatty alcohol, and benzalkonium chloride. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of disinfectants with different concentrations on the development of A. lumbricoides eggs. Materials and methods in this study used A. lumbricoides eggs derived from the feces of ascariasis patients. Then the feces were converted into the suspense through the process of sedimentation and centrifugation. The results of this study showed that all disinfectants with different concentrations had no effect on the development of A. lumbricoides larvae. Keywords: Ethoxylate alcohol, Sodium lauryl ether sulfate, Carbol-pine oil, Benzalkonium chlorid-ethoxylate fatty alcohol
