Abstract

Tulisan singkat ini menekankan bahwa keluarnya satu negara dari organisasi internasional bukanlah merupakan hal yang aneh, jika kita mau mencoba mempelajari keputusan ini dari sisi negoisasi strategis (strategic bargaining). Dari dua kasus di atas, yakni Korea Utara dan Indonesia, dapat terlihat bahwa pada dasarnya walaupun organisasi internasional merupakan sesuatu yang penting dan bergua, namun organisasi internasional juga bisa menjadi alat untuk menekankan posisi negara agar bisa dianggap serius dalam kondisi internasional yang serba tidak pasti

Abstract

Australia is the closest neighbor of Indonesia. Relations between the two countries have a long history. It is undeniable that in the course of its relations Indonesia and Australia often experience conflicts. In the days of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's leadership, there was a wiretapping incident by Australia against Indonesia. This raises the tension of bilateral relations between the two countries. This study aims to examine more deeply the Indonesian foreign policy related to the Australian espionage case. The research method used is a descriptive analysis method, namely research that uses a pattern of depicting the state of empirical facts accompanied by descriptive arguments that are relevant. Then, the results of the description are followed by analysis to draw analytical conclusions. President SBY as a leader played an important role in Indonesia's foreign policy, as evidenced by his tenure as President SBY took several Foreign Minister roles in approaching each dialogue partner in order to gain the Australian Government's trust in his commitment.

Abstract

Under what condition states will withdraw from an international organization? This article examines this question from the perspective of three systemic approaches: realism, liberalism, and constructivism by generating hypotheses from each approach and testing them on the case of Indonesia's withdrawal from the United Nations in 1965. The systemic perspectives, however, could only provide partial answers to this puzzle, and thus the need to include domestic political analysis in conjunction of the systemic analysis in order to fully answer the question.

Abstract

How and why images that states and their leaders have toward others change in foreign policy? Literature on psychology, notably on confirmation bias, state that in general, people stick with preconceived ideas that they have in their mind, and they always accept information that support their beliefs, while reject information that contradicts them.[1] And confirmation bias, in turn, affects how a state conducts its foreign policy – that in general, there will always be continuation in a state’s foreign policy, unless there is a systemic shock, caused by dramatic changes in the power distribution.

Abstract

The interest groups become a channel for the public to express their opinions or views to the government where public participation in policy making can also be a pressure and cause new problems for policy makers in implementing the policies that are decided. In this regard, this paper discusses how Radical Islamic groups try to influence Indonesia's foreign policy through the Palestinian issue. Next will be discussed using the leadership theory proposed by Margareth which states that leaders become important actors in foreign policy making in their interpretation which is also influenced by domestic politics. Snyder's theory of persuasion of political elites states that political elites use ethnic issues in achieving their political goals. as a pressure group that is used and supports each other with the Jokowi's government opposition party, Gerindra and PKS who have the same ideas about anti-imperialism and foreign colonialism trying to increase their influence by mobilizing the masses in order to achieve seats in government and maintain their position in society by spreading ideas and understanding related to Islamic issues. Therefore, in an effort to reduce domestic political turmoil and maintain leadership and credibility as well as to be more active in foreign politics, Jokowi tries to provide what is desired by the people who fight for these ideas by participating in the Palestinian independence struggle and suppressing opposition groups that trying to reduce leadership in his government that those who have a position and recognition in the government.

Abstract

Masalah keamanan di Papua Barat terus mendapatkan perhatian dari negara-negara lain. Indonesia yang bertindak untuk mempertahankan kedaulatannya di tanah Papua, dikecam sebagai pelanggar hak asasi penduduk Papua Barat, terutama oleh negara-negara di kawasan Pasifik. Sorotan ini menyebabkan Pemerintah Indonesia mengambil kebijakan untuk melaksanakan Pacific Exposition 2019 sebagai salah satu cara untuk memperbaiki citra Indonesia di kawasan Pasific. Artikel ini akan menjelaskan mengapa biro di birokrasi Indonesia membentuk kebijakan luar negeri dengan cepat dan dapat memperlihatkan reaksi dan mengambil langkah-langkah antisipasi yang diperlukan negara, terutama dibandingkan dengan menunggu persamaan pandangan dengan opini-opini masyarakat untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang sudah ada.
