Abstract

The development of Islamic Institution in South Sulawesi from Madrasah Arabiyah Islamiyah (MAI) in Sengkang until becomes Darud Dakwah wal 'Irsyad (DDI) is not far from a important role of civil society such as goverment, public figure, internal and external organization, and entrepeneur. Besides, it also involves ertain person like AGHM As'ad amd AGH Abdul Rahman Ambo Dalle.

Abstract

Photojournalism is one of the various channels to convey messages in visual form. It is a combination of images and texts that produces a single communication unit that reflects events and issues in a society. In the A8 section of Guo Ji Ri Bao, a Mandarin-language newspaper in Indonesia, dated September 25, 2020, seven photojournalism materials were discovered to contain signs and symbols related to Islam Wasathiyah value. This implied message indicated the media’s “agenda” in presenting reality or social issues, where the agenda typically corresponds to the ideology of the media itself. The media construct the frame of mind for their readers even with symbols and this study originated with the formulation of the main problem: “How is the value of Islam wasathiyah reflected in photojournalism on the Guo Ji Ri Bao newspaper viewed from the perspective of meanings and media?” An analysis of semiotics, structuralism, connotation and denotation based on Gill Branston and Roy Stafford's Meanings and Media perspective were utilized in this study. It was discovered that Guo Ji Ri Bao newspaper played a significant role in conveying the value of Islam Wasathiyah. This value is important to convey to all levels of society even through photos because it will be one of the ways to preach (da’wah) that lead us to a happy, peaceful, and harmonious life.***Foto jurnalistik merupakan salah satu saluran penyampai pesan dalam bentuk visual. Foto jurnalistik terbentuk sebagai kombinasi dari gambar dan teks yang menghasilkan satu kesatuan komunikasi yang mencerminkan makna tersendiri dan permasalahan dalam masyarakat. Pada media Guo Ji Ri Bao surat kabar berbahasa Mandarin di Indonesia, pada rubrik A8 25 September 2020, ditemukan tujuh materi foto jurnalistik yang memuat tanda dan simbol terkait nilai Islam wasathiyah. Pesan yang tersirat ini berkaitan dengan “agenda” media dalam  menyajikan realitas atau isu-isu sosial yang terjadi. Agenda sebuah media erat kaitannya dengan ideologi media itu sendiri. Sehingga, media kerap mengkonstruksi bingkai pemikiran pembacanya bahkan dengan unsur simbol dan tanda sekalipun. Studi ini hadir dengan rumusan masalah utama: “Bagaimana nilai Islam wasathiyah dalam foto jurnalistik pada surat kabar Guo Ji Ri Bao dalam perspektif meanings and media, dengan fokus menggali aspek semiotika, strukturalisme, dan makna konotasi dan denotasi berdasarkan perspektif makna dan media karya Gill Branston dan Roy Stafford. Kesimpulan pada penelitian menyatakan bahwa surat kabar Guo Ji Ri Bao memainkan peran penting dalam menyampaikan nilai-nilai Islam wasathiyah. Nilai ini penting untuk disampaikan kepada seluruh lapisan masyarakat bahkan melalui foto karena akan menjadi salah satu corong dakwah untuk mengantarkan kita pada tatanan kehidupan yang aman, damai, tenteram, dan bahagia.

Abstract

As the government institution that handles the international affairs of the nation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia holds the responsibility of representing Indonesia to its international counterparts. The official website of the Foreign Ministry, www.kemlu.go.id, is the hub of information provided by the institution with news stories submitted from domestic sources and also from Indonesia’s official diplomatic representative overseas. This research aims to analyze how Indonesia’s national cultural image is represented on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs RI, www.kemlu. go. id. Moreover, this research also aims to analyze the aspects of ‘representation and the real’, as well as analyzing how ‘positive and negative images’ are represented on the website. This research employs a qualitative approach in analyzing aspects of ‘representation and the real’ and ‘positive and negative images’ of Indonesia’s national cultural image representation on the website. Data collected are in the form of documentation of news stories published on the website. Research findings show that the Foreign Ministry illustrates representations that are in favor of Indonesia and protective of its national culture. The website presents key aspects of Indonesian culture that contribute to a positive representation.

Abstract

The political economy of communication reflects a process which commodified labor in the production process of goods and services. The political economy of the media is done by Transmedia through its television station that TransTV and Trans 7 focuses on the production, distribution, and consumption. To understand how the application of political economy approach used in the study of the mass media, then there are three concepts, namely commodification, spatialization, and structuring. As can be seen from the shape of the commodification of media content, audience, and workers. While the forms of media spatialization performed with the vertical and horizontal integration. The results of this study indicate that the media products produced two television stations tend to be geared to the world of entertainment which often do not educate. Form of commodification audience rating and share views through a program that is considered to represent the audience. Commodification of labor is done by mirroring. Mirroring performed by equating the system between the two television stations. As such, the workers can concurrently two positions or positions on two television stations. While the form of spatialization that occur in Transmedia includes vertical and horizontal integration. It can be seen that Transmedia is part of CT Corp a large company owned by Chairul Tanjung. This study also shows that the owners of the media, especially in determining the content of the medium. Some strategies acquisitions made CT Corp in creating transmedia not only as an effort to improve service to the public interest, but rather a business strategy.

Abstract

This article is a critical review of the phenomenon of political contestation in the 2019 presidential election. Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan (PDI P) views the reality that NU is a political attribute of Ma’ruf Amin, as a tool to influence voting. In this context, the political strategy deliberately framed by the Prabowo camp aims to neutralize religious issues. Using a phenomenological approach and descriptive-analytical method, this research will dialogue with two specific problems, specifically: what is the role of Ma’ruf Amin as a voter for PDI P, and what is the role of voters in PDI P's victory? Furthermore, data were obtained through interviews, observations, and literature studies from several sources relevant to the research topic. The research results show that the Ma’ruf Amin entity as Jokowi's representative is seen as an absolute in gaining votes for the PDI P. Muslims as voters are divided into two types. First, the voters are dominated by reactive voters with lower secondary education levels. Second, the rational, responsive and active voters with an upper secondary education level.
