<![CDATA[Abstract Until now, nosocomial infection remains a global health problem, especially in surgical wound infections that need serious attention. One of the efforts to reduce the number of germs/bacteria colonies is disinfecting the room by using a solution of chlorine (bleach) which was used in operating room of Mandau Duri public hospital regularly. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of chlorine (bleach) to the number of colonies of germs in operating room of Mandau Duri public hospital. The design of this research was “Quasy Experiment". Samples in this study amounted to 18 swabs were taken using total sampling technique that consists of 9 swab germs before treatment and 9 swab germs after treatment with chlorine. This research was conducted in the operating room of Madau Duri public hospital that includes OK I, II OK, and OK III (CITO). The total sample consisted of 18 germ swabs taken from swab walls, floors, and the operation lamps. The instruments used in this study were the observation sheet and microbiology lab. The analysis used were the analysis univariate and bivariate by using independent sample T-test. The results showed the average value of the number of bacteria by a sampling before intervention was 0.99 and the average value after intervention using chlorine is 0.44 and the swab results according to the operating room found the average value of the number of germs before treatment is 1 and after treatment with chlorine obtained average value of germs is 0.44. The result of statistical test was p value 0,018 <α 0.05. It can be concluded that the solution of chlorine was very effective to decrease the number of germs colonies in operating rooms of Mandau Duri public hospital and it can be recommended for using chlorine as disinfectant.Keywords: Chlorine, The number of germs colonies.]]>
