Abstract

Abstract

Fish provides many benefits for humans, such as food and ornamental fish. Lake fish in West Java is increasingly threatened due to environmental degradation. This study aimed to record the diversity of fish species and its potency in Cilodong Lake, Depok. The parameters measured were the diversity of fish species by Shannon Wienner index, and the physical chemical of water quality that were pH, DO, BOD, COD, TOM, temperature, brightness, and depth. This research found 12 species consumption fishes, and 5 species of ornamental fishes. Four most common species found were Oreochromis mossambicus (cichlids/mujair), Oreochromis sp., Hypostomus sp. (ikan sapu-sapu), and Dermogenys pussil (julung-julung). The Pearson correlation analysis results showed that all physical chemical parameters of water correlated inversely with the diversity of fish species. Parameters that had very strong correlation with the species diversity in Cilodong Lake were the water depth, temperature, and COD. Keywords: Species Diversity, Fish, Lake Cilodong

Abstract

The Telaga Wama Natural Reserve (CATWA) at Bogor Regency, West Java Province is a biodiversity conservation area, however, the changed of some of the area's functions into a Nature Tourism Park can affect the quality of its ecosystem. One approach to evaluate ecosystem quality is through the analysis of Anura species diversity. The continuity of the Anuras eggs and larvae is influenced by the presence of pollutants in the waters. The availability of Anura species diversity database can be an indication of the aquatic ecosystem quality at CATWA. This research was conducted using the Visual Encounter Survey method at five sampling locations in CATWA, namely river, lake, swamp, forest pond, and waterfall. Observations of tadpoles were carried out twice a week, for four weeks, accompanied by physical-chemical measurements of the waters, namely DO, BOD, COD, temperature, pH, depth, and turbidity. The Anura diversity database is made up of a time series, combining of this study result, and previous reports. This study had identified 10 species of tadpoles from six Anura families, namely Dicroglossidae, Megophyridae, Ranidae, Bufonidae, Rhachoporidae and Microhylidae. The level of species diversity is moderate (H'=2.29). Turbidity and water temperature have the highest correlation with species diversity. The water quality in CATWA was relatively good, and able to support the life of Anura. This is also evidenced by the presence of species representatives from all Anura families in Java Island.

Abstract

The Nyctixalus margaritifer frogs is a native species on Java island, and nature's existence is increasingly threatened. This species has very limited distribution in West Java, and there is no information regarding sexual dimorphism. Therefore, this research aimed to explore the presence of N. margarite in the Situ Gunung area in the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) and analyze sexual dimorphism based on morphometrics. The research was conducted in September-December 2023, and data were collected using the Visual Encounter Survey (VES) method. The coordinates of individual N. margaritifer were recorded using GPSMAP, followed by analyzing 23 morphometric characters using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney. The Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was carried out to determine characters that form group structures. The data obtained were tested using the Bartlett homogeneity variance test and declared significant at p-value <0.05. The statistical analysis was performed using R software. The results showed that there were 6 males and 10 females of N. margaritifer in 4.34-hectare home range found at 10-80 cm height from the ground, attached to the leaves or stems of fern Shillaginella sp., taro Homalomena sp., Cyrtandra sp., and Laportea sp. Regarding defensive behavior in the presence of humans, N. margaritifer were observed to stop moving and making sounds, pressed their limbs on the perches, remained still, and appeared dead. The results of the analysis obtained three characters that differentiate sex with significant p-value <0.05, namely snout-vent length (SVL), third toe length (T3), and wrist width (Lt.M). PCA scatter plot showed that the three characters did not contribute maximally as separators. Meanwhile, the K mean cluster analysis produced clustering of SVL, T3, and Lt.M, which was not strong enough to be used as sex-distinguishing characters.

Abstract

Melinda K, Suseno H, Prihatini W. 2015.Bioaccumulation and distribution of137Cesium in the Humpback Grouper Fish(Cromileptes altivelis). Nusantara Bioscience 7:180-184.Humpback grouper fish (Cromileptes altivelis) is a highly valuable exportcommodity of food products. The high demand of this species needs to be supported by the intensive coastal aquaculture. However, thecoastal aquaculture has been jeopardized by several threats, for an exampleradionuclide pollutant 137Cesium (Cs) generated fromnuclear reactor wastes. The pollutant accumulation in fish occurs because of continuing exposure to the pollutant-containing medium. This research was conducted from May to June 2015 at the Laboratory of Oceanic Radioecology,Center for Technology of RadiationSafety and Meteorology, National Nuclear Energy Agency, South Jakarta. This research observed the level of bioaccumulation anddistribution of 137Cs inC. altivelis bodies. Radionucleid 137Cs of 2 Bq/mL concentration was inducted to two groups of fish, i.e. mediumsize (average body mass of 65.8g) and small size (average body mass of 34.7g). The calculation of concentration factor valuesatsteady state (CFss) was done to determine the level of bioaccumulation 137Cs in fish body. The distribution of Cs in fish body wasanalyzed by calculating the percentage of accumulation 137Cs in a certain organ to the total accumulation in fish body. The resultsshowed that the value of CFss of medium size fish was 1.23 and CFss for small fish was 2.01. It means that small size fish accumulated 137Cs almost twice as much as larger fish. The accumulation of 137Cs in C. Altivelis was foundmost in its muscle (meat), which was63.34%. This research findings provide reason for us to be more careful in consuming humpback grouper fish coming from Cspolluted water due to the impact ofbiomagnifications of 137Cs in fish.
