Abstract

Background: In a disaster or criminal case, comprehensive information is needed for identification process of each victim. Especially for some cases that only leave skull without any information that could help the identification process, including face reconstruction that will be needed. One way of identifications is specific face characteristic, race, some head-neck measurements, such as facial morphology index, interincisal angle and facial height. Purpose: The aim of study was to determine the correlation of facial morphology index with interincisal angle and facial height through cephalometric measurement. Methods: The samples were cephalogram of 31 subjects (Deutro-Malayid race) who met the inclusive criteria. Cephalometric analysis were done to all samples and followed by Pearson Correlation statistical test. Results: The correlation was found between facial morphology index and facial height, but no correlation between facial morphology index and interincisal angle. Conclusion: The study showed that the cephalometric measurement of facial morphology index and facial height could be used as the additional information for identification process.Latar belakang: Dalam bencana alam atau kasus kriminal informasi yang komprehensif diperlukan untuk proses identifikasi masing korban. Khususnya pada beberapa kasus yang hanya meninggalkan tengkorak tanpa informasi yang dapat membantu proses identifikasi, termasuk rekonstruksi wajah yang akan dibutuhkan. Salah satu cara identifikasi karakteristik wajah tertentu, ras, beberapa pengukuran kepala leher, seperti indeks morfologi wajah, sudut interincisal dan tinggi wajah. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan meneliti korelasi indeks morfologi wajah dengan sudut interincisal dan tinggi wajah melalui pengukuran sefalometrik. Metode: Sampel penelitian adalah cephalogram dari 31 subyek ras Deutro - Malayid ras yang memenuhi kriteria inklusif. Analisis cephalometri dilakukan pada semua sampel dan dilanjutkan dengan uji statistik korelasi Pearson. Hasil: Korelasi ditemukan antara indeks morfologi wajah dan tinggi wajah, tapi tidak ada korelasi antara indeks morfologi wajah dan sudut interincisal. Simpulan: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengukuran sefalometrik indeks morfologi wajah dan tinggi wajah, dapat digunakan sebagai informasi tambahan untuk proses identifikasi.

Abstract

Orthodontic treatment is performed by moving the malposition teeth into a good position in the dental arch with a removable or fixed orthodontic appliance. In this regard, the removable orthodontic appliance has an active component to transmit the orthodontic force that will result in orthodontic tooth movement. The orthodontic force used must be optimal in the sense of being able to produce tooth movement without causing side effects that endanger the periodontal tissue. It is necessary to activate the active components of the appliance, which in orthodontic treatment can be done several times until the desired tooth position is achieved. This study aims to explain the differences in orthodontic force in activating active components of removable orthodontic appliances. The research method was an experimental laboratory. A total of 24 removable orthodontic appliances used in this study were divided into two groups. The first group has a Z spring or single cantilever spring active component, and the other group has a labial bow. Each active component is activated by opening the loop by 1mm, 1.5mm, and 2mm, and in each activation, the magnitude of the force generated is measured using a tension gauge. Data analyzed by Mann Whitney (p<0.05). The result showed different activations carried out in this study resulted in significantly different forces with p=0.029. The force generated in each activation increases as the loop opening increases. Based on that results, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the force magnitude generated by the activation of the removable orthodontic appliance active component. Abstract

Wajah dan profil wajah merupakan bagian utama dari tubuh yang dapat membantu seseorang untuk membentuk kesan dan berinteraksi dengan orang lain di lingkungannya. Baik wajah maupun profil wajah memberikan beberapa karakteristik khusus pada setiap individu yang berbeda satu dengan yang lain. Harmonisasi dan relasi gigi dengan struktur skeletal yang membentuk profil wajah juga berbeda pada tiap individu. Posisi gigi anterior pada tulang basal dapat mengubah profil wajah, termasuk posisi bibir atas yang pada akhirnya akan mempengaruhi konveksitas wajah tersebut. Karakteristik individual yang terdapat pada gigi geligi dari individu berbeda ini telah lama disadari sebagai faktor penting yang menjadi panduan atau landasan utama dalam forensik identifikasi, khususnya dalam pembuatan sketsa wajah dari orang hilang atau tidak dikenal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara sudut inter-insisal dan konveksitas profil wajah. Penelitian ini melibatkan 31 subyek yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi. Radiogram sefalometri lateral dan fotograf profil wajah dibuat untuk masing-masing subyek untuk kemudian dilakukan pengukuran sudut inter-insisal dan penentuan konveksitas wajah. Penentuan konveksitas wajah, digunakan fotograf profil untuk mendapatkan evaluasi harmoni yang lebih akurat dari hubungan antara jaringan lunak dan jaringan keras wajah. Data yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan uji korelasi Pearson dan hasilnya menunjukkan suatu korelasi yang bermakna dengan nilai p 0,036 (p<0,05) antara sudut inter-insisal dan konveksitas profil wajah. Hasil ini membuktikan bahwa terdapat korelasi antara kedua variabel yang diukur. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah terdapat hubungan antara besar sudut inter-insisal dan konveksitas profil wajah. Abstract

ABSTRACT Orthodontic treatment with removable orthodontic appliances requires the patient's commitment to use the appliance in the mouth at a certain time. It can lead to specific changes in the mouth, such as a decrease in the level of acidity or pH of the mouth, which may be associated with increased biofilm accumulation. The acidity level of saliva in the mouth is an important factor in several oral problems, such as dental caries and periodontal disease. The use of mouthwash is still one of the simple ways that are widely used to overcome these problems. Among the many types of mouthwash on the market, sorbitol mouthwash is an option that can be used to prevent changes in the acidity level of saliva from reaching a critical value of < 5.5 and endangering the oral health of orthodontic patients. This study aims to determine the change in salivary pH of patients in orthodontic treatment with removable appliances before and after immersion with sorbitol mouthwash. The research method was an experimental laboratory study conducted with pre-test and post-test designs involving 33 samples divided into three groups, each consisting of 11 samples. Immersion time is divided into three categories, namely 15, 30, and 60 seconds. A pH indicator measures the level of saliva acidity. The results show that there are different changes in pH in each period of immersion. The conclusion was that immersion in sorbitol mouthwash resulted in changes in the pH level of saliva in removable orthodontic appliances, and the sufficient soaking time is 15 seconds. Abstract

The face and facial profile are the main parts of the body that can help a person form impressions and interact with other people in their environment. Both faces and facial profiles have some special characteristics that differentiate individuals. Analysis of a person's facial profile can be carried out by measuring the soft tissue profile at certain anatomical standard points as a reference and using photographic data (lateral facial photos of the patient) and radiographic (soft tissue profile in lateral cephalogram of the patient). This study was conducted to explain the differences in the facial profile analysis results performed on orthodontic patients' photographs and radiographs. A total of 44 orthodontic patients participated in this study, and by using the purposive sampling method, research materials were obtained in the form of photographs and lateral cephalograms of patients with skeletal class II malocclusion characteristics. The results of facial profile analysis on radiographs are smaller than those of facial profile analysis on photographs. In conclusion, it can be said that there is a statistically significant difference between the results of facial profile analysis on photographs and radiographs of orthodontic patients.
