Abstract

Literacy culture plays a strategic role in shaping the character and thinking skills of students from an early age. However, low reading interest among elementary school students remains a challenge in various regions, including at Tomohon 2 Public Elementary School. This community service activity aims to optimize reading corners and literacy boards to increase students' interest and literacy skills. The methods used included initial observation, designing and providing reading corners, creating interactive literacy boards, teacher training, and participatory evaluation. The results of the activity showed an increase in student enthusiasm for reading and expressing their reading experiences through the literacy boards. The reading corners provide a conducive alternative space for learning, while the literacy boards serve as a medium for student communication and expression. The conclusion of this activity is that providing attractive and functional literacy facilities can significantly encourage the growth of a reading culture in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the persistent presence of pedagogical misconceptions among teachers in implementing deep learning–oriented instruction, which leads to inaccuracies in both instructional design and classroom practice. These misconceptions extend beyond technical issues and reflect deeper conceptual misunderstandings, particularly in relation to learning principles, learning experiences, instructional syntax, and the integration of digital technologies. This study aims to identify the forms of teachers’ pedagogical misconceptions and to examine how these can be addressed through instructional modules and collaborative mentoring. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using an interactive model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that teachers’ pedagogical misconceptions are structural in nature and manifest across multiple dimensions of instruction. Teachers tend to conflate learning principles with learning activities, interpret learning experiences merely as sequences of tasks, organize instructional syntax in a fragmented manner, and utilize digital technology in a predominantly instrumental way. The intervention, implemented through instructional modules and collaborative mentoring, demonstrates a gradual yet transformative improvement in teachers’ pedagogical understanding. This study concludes that addressing pedagogical misconceptions requires an integrated approach that combines conceptual reinforcement with reflective processes facilitated through collaborative mentoring.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the implementation of character education in fostering a sense of love for the homeland in grade V students at 7 Tondano State Elementary School, Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi. Character education is an important foundation in shaping a young generation that is not only intellectually intelligent but also has integrity, social responsibility, and strong nationalism. Methodology: Data was collected using a qualitative descriptive approach through observation, interviews, and documentation studies of learning activities, extracurricular activities, and teaching tools related to national values. Main Findings: The study's findings show that the values of love for the homeland are consistently integrated in the learning of Pancasila and Citizenship Education, and strengthened through school activities such as flag ceremonies, community service, and national holiday celebrations. The active role of teachers and principals as role models and creators of school culture that supports national character is the main factor in the implementation’s success. Despite this, challenges are still encountered, especially regarding the limitations of engaging learning media and limited time in the curriculum. This study contributes to developing character education practices in primary schools by emphasizing the importance of a contextual approach based on local culture. Novelty/Originality of this Study: This study's uniqueness lies in its incorporation of traditional Minahasa values such as cooperation (mapalus) into the formation of the character of love for the homeland, as well as recommendations for strengthening through innovative learning media relevant to the digital era.
