Abstract

The aim of this study is to measure the difficulties faced by Non- English lecturers of universitas riau kepulauan on using machine translation on writing article. It is a qualitative research by using descriptive analysis. Questionnaire was used to collect data; the questionnaire was shared to all lecturers of Riau Kepulauan University, as the respondents. Based on the questionnaires, it was found that there are some difficulties such as idiom, not accordance with the principle of translation and sometimes the word cannot be found on the google translation

Abstract

This research is to find out Subject and Verb are used in descriptive writing and to find out the students percentages of mistakes in using Subject and Verb in Descriptive Writing The research was conducted in three month starting from observing the sample to making report. This research was held on eighth grade students of SMP Bhineka Nusantara Batam. The research method used qualitative methodology. The subject of the research is Smp Bhineka Nusantara Batam. There are several techniques to collect the data that was used in conducting a research, namely observation, questionnaire, interview, and test. In this research, the researcher used test. Technique of analyzing data: measuring the students’ individual mastery, measuring the mean (average) of students’ mastery, measuring the classical mastery.the researcher classified the students’ syntactical analysis in Descriptive writing. Then the researcher only focused on 2 areas: Sentence Pattern (subject and verb) divided by two sentences exactly nominal sentence and verbal sentence. The average of totally non-syntactically is 39 from nominal and verbal (Subject and Verb), while nominal got 54, and verbal got 22 totally, we take all total nominal and verbal are 78 from 30 students

Abstract

Translation is the transferring meaning of the text from source language in which to equivalent text in target language that communicates similar messages by changing structure without changing meaning. The qualitative descriptive method as the research design of this study which aimed to find out translation techniques used by English third semester students in translating a narrative text entitled “Telaga Warna” from English into Indonesian and to describe the dominant technique used by the students in translating the text. The collecting of the data collected taken from the result translation of narrative text from English into Indonesian by 14 participants of English third semester students. In this study, the data analyzed based on translation techniques of Molina and Albir (2002) theory. Based on data analysis, it was found that the translation techniques of narrative text entitled “Telaga Warna” from English into Indonesian done by English third semester students of University of Riau Kepulauan uses fourteen (14) translation techniques found in 1302 data while translating the text. The translation techniques were namely literal translation, calque, reduction, amplification, discursive creation, linguistic amplification, established equivalent, particularization, transposition, linguistic compression, modulation, borrowing, variation, and generalization. The most dominant technique of translation used by students was literal translation techniques
