Abstract

This research investigates the prospects of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Indonesian Navy's ship information system as a crucial step in developing a robust and innovative maritime defense industry. The primary focus is on the application of AI technology in the ship information system, analyzing various aspects, including the potential implementation of AI in monitoring and analyzing maritime waters, technical and security challenges that may arise, expected benefits, and the strategic impact of AI implementation in Indonesia's maritime defense industry. The research method employs the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, providing a systematic and comprehensive approach to collecting, evaluating, and analyzing relevant literature in a specific field. This study involves literature searches using keywords such as artificial intelligence, information systems, maritime defense industry, Indonesian defense, and Indonesian Navy ships from 2011 to 2023 in various sources such as scholarly journals, conferences, and online databases. The research findings indicate that the use of artificial intelligence in the Indonesian Navy's ship information system has significant potential to improve maritime monitoring, threat detection, operational efficiency, and international collaboration. The integration of AI with advanced sensors such as radar, sonar, and thermal cameras enables more accurate real-time monitoring of activities in maritime waters. Higher accuracy in monitoring and threat detection also contributes to increased situational awareness and smarter decision-making by operational leaders in the Indonesian Navy. Despite the substantial benefits, AI implementation faces several challenges, including initial investment costs, infrastructure availability, personnel training, data security, ethical regulations, dependence on foreign technology, integration and compatibility issues, AI technology reliability, cultural and organizational changes, and long-term benefits. To address these challenges, it is recommended that the government allocates budgets wisely, develops adequate technological infrastructure, provides personnel training, and formulates ethical regulations. Strengthening independence in the development of domestic AI technology is also crucial.

Abstract

Technology development in the defense industry is directed at building the ability to produce Alpalhankam that meets the operational requirements standardized by the Ministry of Defense, namely high quality, weather resistance, accuracy, combat power, high speed and difficult to detect. PT Pindad as a State-Owned Enterprise engaged in the Defense Industry is capable of making quality munitions, but the packaging line for small caliber munitions is still done manually. Therefore, it is necessary to automate the munition packaging line. In this research, the author conducted research using quantitative research methods through the Feasibility Study approach. The results and objectives of this study accelerate the packaging process on the small caliber munitions production line which was originally partly done semi-manually to use full machine automation and be able to support production so as to accelerate the fulfillment of small caliber munitions demand. The steps that are considered necessary are by investing in machines to increase the ability to package small caliber munitions and minimize the occurrence of errors in the munition packaging process

Abstract

This research aims to explore key issues related to Indonesia's economic potential, particularly its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reaching US$9.3 trillion. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projections indicate that by 2030, Indonesia will be one of the top economic powers, competing with India and Brazil. The primary focus of the research is the defense sector as a strategic potential requiring a proactive response. The research objectives involve exploring the level of self-sufficiency in the defense industry, understanding challenges related to defense budget allocation, and identifying factors influencing global competitiveness. The research methodology is descriptive with a qualitative document-based approach, specifically focusing on strategic State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) within Defense ID, such as PT Len, PT Pindad, PT PAL, PT DI, and PT Dahana. Data analysis encompasses information from these SOEs, utilizing theoretical frameworks including Competitive Theory, Penta-Helix Theory, Defense Industry Cluster Concept, and Central Government Budgeting Model. Research findings indicate that SOEs within Defense ID can be considered self-sufficient in the global defense industry competitiveness. However, it is noteworthy that the Defense Budget allocation is still below 1% of the GDP, creating its own challenges. The conclusion of the research is that Indonesia has significant potential to develop a self-reliant defense industry capable of global competition. Recommendations include enhancing collaboration, developing Pentahelix or Septahelix concepts, and implementing Defense Industry Clustering to improve innovation, efficiency, and competitiveness in the sector. Additionally, the Defense Budget Allocation Policy significantly influences the progress of this industry, requiring proactive measures to ensure alignment with the desired economic growth. Thus, the research findings provide a foundation for the Government, Stakeholders, and Future Researchers to develop strategies and policies supporting optimal growth in the Indonesian Defense sector.

Abstract

This research focuses on the impact of the development of the aluminum industry on the welfare of society and national security in Indonesia. As a strategic sector, the aluminum industry plays a central role in economic growth and national defense. The research aims to identify complex social impacts and provide detailed policy recommendations. The research method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR), which collects and analyzes relevant literature between 2014 and 2024. The results show positive growth in the production and employment of the aluminum industry, with the adoption of current technology improving worker qualifications. However, the research also reveals several challenges, including job displacement, uncontrolled urban growth, and environmental impact. The role of aluminum in national defense indicates dependence on key resources, requiring diversification strategies and supply security. Policy implications emphasize the need for equitable distribution of benefits, sustainable defense strategies, and a balance between defense needs and societal welfare. The conclusion of this research is that the aluminum industry in Indonesia, despite its positive impact on the economy and defense, also poses complex challenges. Collaboration between the government, industry, and society is key to managing these impacts, with wise policies to create a balanced, sustainable environment that supports national development. This research contributes to the social sciences literature and serves as a basis for wiser policies in managing the social and security impacts of the development of the aluminum industry in Indonesia.
