Introduction : Increased pulmonary tuberculosis in Manado City in 2009 amounted to 710based on clinical symptoms rose to 9,108 cases in 2010 and who has been diagnosedwith TB positive and is undergoing treatment as much as 895. One of the problems inpatients with pulmonary tuberculosis is a decrease in feed intake followed by weight lossand changes in nutritional status into malnutrition . Lactobacillus strains is one of thenormal intestinal flora that can fight against the evil germs and can help improve theabsorption of nutrients from the intestine .Methods : This study is an experimental study with a true experimental design. Thepopulation in this study were patients with pulmonary tuberculosis were enrolled in someareas health centers in the city of Manado were taken using the inclusion and exclusioncriteria, and then randomly divided into 3 groups: a group that received probioticsupplementation , the group receiving probitik and prebiotic oligosaccharides Frukto andcontrol groups . The sample size in this study using a hypothesis test for a populationproportion (one- side test) accounted for 78 subjects .Results : There were differences in either body weight or nutrient intake before and afterthe intervention in subjects given probiotic and prebiotic supplementation compared tocontrol , in other words using probiotic and prebiotic interventions can improve nutrientintake and body weight of the subject.Conclusion : Supplementation of probiotic and prebiotic in patients with pulmonarytuberculosis may improve nutrient intake, body weight and body mass index values ofpulmonary tuberculosis patients
