Abstract

Introduction: Self-efficacy is defined as a person’s own judgment of their capabilities to perform a specific activity to attain a particular outcome. The concept of self-efficacy of exercise in older adults with diabetes may still be unclear, so it is essential to elucidate its meaning for better understanding in this concept. This paper aims to explore the meaning of self-efficacy with regard to exercise in older adults with diabetes.Methods: Using the Walker and Avant concept analysis, it discusses cases showing diabetic Thai people and how they manage their health behavior changes, such as with exercise.Results: Analysis of the concept of self-efficacy in terms of its defining attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents provides information related to clinical usefulness. It helps healthcare professionals communicate the same notion when discussing self-efficacy and can distinguish this concept from other related concepts.Conclusion: Analysis of the concept of self-efficacy provides information related to exercise in older adults and can assist healthcare professionals in communicating the same notion when discussing the concept.

Abstract

Introduction: This was descriptive research which aimed to study the learning outcomes based on the Thai Qualifications Frameworks for Higher Education (TQF: HEd)) after completing community health nursing practicum of 4th year students, the Faculty of Nursing, Naresuan University.Methods: The samples were 113 4th year nursing students. Data were collected using the evaluation form of opinions on learning outcomes in six areas, namely morals and ethics, knowledge, intellectual skills, interpersonal skills and responsibility, numerical analysis, communication and information technology skills and professional practice skills. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution, percentage, mean and standard deviation.Results: The research results showed that the mean score of the opinions of the 4th year students, Faculty of Nursing, Naresuan University, toward their learning outcomes based on the TQF: HEd was quite high in all six areas. The overall score was at a high level (X̄=4.36, S.D. =0.42). The area with the highest level was morals and ethics (X̄ = 4.50, S.D = 0.39), followed by professional practice skills (X̄ = 4.48, S.D. = 0.49), interpersonal skills and responsibility (X̄ = 4.43, S.D. = 0.53), numerical analysis, communication and information technology skills (X̄ = 4.31, S.D. = 0.55), intellectual skills (X̄= 4.31, S.D. = 0.52) and knowledge (X̄ = 4.11, S.D. = 0.55), respectively.Conclusion: The research results can be used as the guidelines for the development of learning outcomes and assessment in accordance with the TQF: HEd.

Abstract

Introduction: Thai society is becoming an aging society due to the increase of the population aged 60 years or above. Developing the elderly care system in the community is important and needs cooperation from many sectors in order to provide care for the elderly effectively.   The objective of this research was to explore the meanings of the elderly care system in community in Thailand, using a qualitative research approach.Methods: This descriptive qualitative research design was conducted with 40 informants at a community in a province located at the lower northern region of Thailand. The informants were divided into two groups. 1) The main informants were the Chief Executive of the Local Administrative Organization (LAO). 2) The secondary informants were those who had been guided to help the elderly in the community and family.  The data were collected by observation, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions and document study. The reliability of the data was verified by triangulation. The data were analyzed by content analysis.Results: The results of  the meanings of the elderly care system in community was defined as five themes: providing help and support, having networks, volunteerism, having knowledge and knowledge management, and community solidarity.Conclusion: The elderly care system in the community is in line with the participation process of all parties, both inside and outside the area, to jointly conduct activities to deal with problems and develop various operations in the area to support the elderly care system in the community.
