Abstract

In this thesis, the researcher chose THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL as her analysis. The researcher was interested topersonality the main character of this novel whose name is Anne Frank. The major objective of this study is to find thechange of the personality of the main character in the novel. The sample was selected from the lines in the novel which werethe main character‟s thought and activities. This research used the method of qualitative research. Qualitative research isone of the research procedure which produces descriptive data in the form of speech and written. On the basis of the resultof this research, it can be concluded that the personality of the main character in THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL generallychanged from extraversion to neuroticism, though the researcher could still find some facets of extraversion when the maincharacter showed the dominant character of neuroticism.

Abstract

This research deals with Slang in Pitch Perfect 3 movie. The objectives of this research are to find out the types of slangwords and to describe the reason of using the dominant types of slang in the movie “Pitch Perfect 3”. This research applied adescriptive qualitative method. The data are taken from Pitch Perfect 3 transcript dialogues. Collecting data in this researchis conducted by using documentary technique, because the data in the form of the dialogues in English Text. The result ofthis research shows that not all of Pitch Perfect 3 dialogues contained all types of slang words. Types of slang that are foundin this movie are Abbreviation, Street and Car Term, Baby Expression and Word Repetition. The most dominant type ofslang used in this movie is Abbreviation (49%) and the researcher doesn‟t find any slang words in rhyming slang. Thereasons use the dominant type of slang Abbreviation in this movie are because in order to be brief and concise, also to makethe word simpler and easier to remember both in writing and speaking.

Abstract

The author tried to create a learning model reading comprehension in English text by using scanning methods and skimming. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was an effect of the reading comprehension learning model in English texts using scanning and skimming methods in the STOK Bina Guna PJKR Study Program. The benefits of this research are to determine the effect of the learning model and improve students' ability in reading comprehension, especially with English texts, so that students can apply both methods when trying to get information from English texts quickly. This research is classroom action research. This research was conducted in a cyclical assessment process through two cycles consisting of four stages, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. Observations was made by observers in this study concluded that student behavior during reading comprehension learning with scanning and skimming techniques in cycle II could be said to be good. However, there are some students who still behave badly during the lesson. From the results of observations, there were 34 students who behaved well during the lesson, while 3 students who did not behaved well. Of the three students, as many as 2 students often turn off the camera during the test. Meanwhile, there are no more students who have bad habits in reading. Based on the results of these observations, student behavior during reading comprehension learning was good and there was an improvement.
