Abstract

Qawaid (Arabic grammar) learning is often perceived as difficult and less engaging because it is commonly taught through conventional teacher-centered methods. This condition leads to low student participation, limited learning motivation, and difficulties in understanding and applying Arabic grammatical rules. Therefore, innovative instructional approaches are needed to create a more active, collaborative, and meaningful learning environment. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of cooperative learning strategies in improving students’ mastery of qawaid while fostering their social and collaborative skills. This study employed a quantitative approach using an experimental design involving Madrasah Aliyah students as research participants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed by comparing learning conditions before and after the implementation of cooperative learning strategies. The findings reveal that cooperative learning significantly improves students’ understanding of qawaid, promotes active classroom participation, and enhances students’ motivation to learn. Furthermore, students demonstrated better collaboration and communication during the learning process. The study concludes that cooperative learning is an effective innovation in Arabic grammar instruction because it not only improves academic achievement but also develops students’ communication, teamwork, and responsibility skills. These findings contribute to the field of Arabic language education by providing practical insights for teachers seeking innovative and student-centered instructional strategies to enhance the quality of qawaid learning

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the factors that led to the public's resistance against the Egyptian authorities in the novel Muzakkarat Fi Sijn al-Nisa’ by Nawal El Saadawi. The issues presented in the novel are related to the inconsistency of the Egyptian authorities in implementing the democratic system they claimed to uphold, which in turn provoked resistance from the people. This study is a library research using a qualitative approach. The data in this study consist of words, phrases, and sentences related to the people’s resistance against the Egyptian authorities in the novel. The data collection technique in this research was carried out through library research, as the main source of data comes from literary texts. The data analysis technique in this study employs the dialectical method, which seeks to integrate two theoretical frameworks Alan Swingewood’s sociology of literature and James C. Scott’s theory of resistance to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the social phenomena represented in the literary text. The results of this study indicate that there are two forms of resistance carried out by the people against the Egyptian authorities: open resistance and hidden resistance. Furthermore, the resistance stems from three main factors: authoritarian governance, human rights violations, and social injustice perpetrated by the Egyptian authorities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the content of the "Manhaji" book by Joko Nursiyo, widely used in the instruction of Arabic grammar and morphology (nahwu and sharaf), particularly among non-Arab learners such as students from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The book is well-known for its methodological approach that combines practical application, memorization, and syntactic analysis using Qur’anic verses and classical texts. It has been implemented both in Indonesia and Egypt, especially among students preparing for higher Islamic studies. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach using content analysis methodology, based on the theoretical framework of good textbook standards as outlined by Nasser Abdullah Al-Ghaly and Abdul Hamid Abdullah. The focus is on three core foundations: cultural (thaqāfī), psychological (nafsī), and linguistic (lughawī) principles. The findings reveal that culturally, the "Manhaji" book successfully integrates strong Islamic values aligned with the background of Muslim learners. However, it lacks representation of broader contemporary Arab culture, which is essential for comprehensive Arabic language acquisition. Psychologically, the book offers practical exercises and simplified explanations that aid student understanding, though it still lacks sufficient attention to gradual learning stages and age-appropriate content. Linguistically, while the book excels in providing Qur’anic examples and syntactic exercises, it falls short in the systematic progression of vocabulary and diversity of language registers. This study recommends future development of nahwu-sharaf textbooks that strike a balanced integration of religious values, learner-centered psychological approaches, and modern linguistic principles to meet the evolving needs of non-native Arabic speakers.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the need for QuizWhizzer as an evaluation tool in the Arabic language tarkib test for eighth-grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 1 Padang City. This study used a mixed methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches to obtain a more comprehensive picture of the need for such an evaluation tool. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and expert validation of questionnaires. The study subjects consisted of 29 eighth-grade VIII.1 students and one Arabic language teacher. Data were collected over a two-week period through validated questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The results showed that the learning evaluations currently conducted by teachers still use conventional methods, using paper and pen, which are time-consuming. Meanwhile, students expressed a desire to be able to see the evaluation results directly. Based on the questionnaire data, the need for analysis from teachers reached 85%, while from students it was 80%. These findings indicate that both teachers and students have a high need for the implementation of digital-based evaluation tools, particularly the use of QuizWhizzer in the Arabic language tarkib test.

Abstract

The expression of meaning in the Qur’an constitutes an essential aspect of bal?ghah studies, demonstrating the linguistic excellence of the revealed text. Meaning in the Qur’an is not merely literal; rather, it is constructed through the interaction between linguistic structure, context, and rhetorical devices. This study aims to comprehensively examine the expression of meaning in the language style of the Qur’an from the perspective of bal?ghah. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using the library research method, drawing upon various scholarly works related to ‘ilm al-ma‘?n?, ‘ilm al-bay?n, and ‘ilm al-bad?‘ as the primary data sources. The data were analyzed through content analysis focusing on the expression of meaning. The findings reveal that meaning in the Qur’an is contextual and dynamic, developed through the harmony between structure and context (‘ilm al-ma‘?n?), the variation of implicit and symbolic expressions (‘ilm al-bay?n), and the reinforcement of aesthetic and rhetorical elements (‘ilm al-bad?‘). These three aspects function integratively in producing meanings that are not only linguistically precise but also rhetorically persuasive and aesthetically powerful. This study underscores the importance of a holistic approach to understanding the language style of the Qur’an and contributes conceptually to the development of Qur’anic linguistic studies based on bal?ghah.

Abstract

This article discusses the varieties of Qur’anic stylistic expression (uslub) from the perspective of balaghah. The study is grounded in the importance of understanding the linguistic distinctiveness of the Qur’an not merely as a form of literary beauty, but also as a Qur’anic communication strategy that possesses semantic power, rhetorical force, and spiritual influence. This research employs a library research method using a descriptive-analytical approach. The data were obtained from relevant literature on ulumul Qur’an, balaghah, and Qur’anic stylistics. The findings indicate that the varieties of Qur’anic stylistic expression can be understood in multiple layers. The first layer relates to modes of delivery, such as uslub ‘ilmi, uslub adabiy, uslub khithaby, uslub iltifat, and uslub al-hakim. The second layer includes forms of expression, such as amtsal, jadal, aqsam, and qashash. The third layer comprises rhetorical devices in balaghah, such as ijaz, ithnab, musawah, isti‘arah, tasybih, and kinayah. This study affirms that the Qur’anic style does not function merely as verbal ornamentation, but operates as a Qur’anic communication system that integrates clarity, beauty, argumentation, politeness, and depth of meaning.
