Abstract

This research was aimed at describing the types of forms and meanings found in the documentary text of the current cyber paper on coronavirus. The result shows that texts tend to be representative, and out of 32 data, only one was in the form of declarative, three directives, four commissives, and the rest were representatives. Meaning and form were determined by context and co-text. It can be concluded that the meaning is context-dependent but the structure varies accordingly. Some may have compound, comples, compound-complex, and even transformative sentences. In short, the context influences the whole text. It was found that exospheric context or reference was greatly influencing the meaning of the text.

Abstract

The title of this community service is "Increasing the Poetry Reading Ability of the Learning Community of HMJ Indonesian Literature and English Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Lancang Kuning University. The aim of this training is to provide knowledge and skills about reading English poetry to the Indonesian and English Literature HMJ community. The ability to read English poetry is both receptive and productive. Receptive because they have to understand the meaning referred to in the poetry text, and productive when doing or giving appreciation. To improve students' reading skills, it is necessary to provide training on English poetry reading techniques properly and correctly so that students gain experience and knowledge that can be used in appreciation.

Abstract

This article is entitiled, “The Improvement of student’s ability in publc speaking at Department of Indonesia and English Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Lancang Kuning University. The research was aimed at improving the ability of the students in Public Speaking using mixed and contextual method. After doing the treatment it was found that students were knowledgeable in terms of language use and in using the style and diction accordingly when speaking before the audienc.

Abstract

This research was aimed at exploring the meaning, form, and function of Malay poem expression uttered during the official ceremony. The analysis was based on the whole context using an operational approach, that is, how a text works within its context. Out of the form and function, meaning is best viewed from its surrounding context and situation. The result shows that text meaning is context-dependent on the cultural value which operates. The text was found unique because of the subject deletion that takes place. The form of the text may be directive, and yet, it sounds as if it was not. This characteristic is due to suffixing the verb with a particle, “lah”. Thus, the function of the directive form is weakening. It tends to be a very polite request instead of an order. 80% dominates the form of representative and the rest was directive.

Abstract

This article is entitiled, “The Improvement of Student’s Ability in Speech Delivery Contest. The research was aimed at improving the ability of the students of State Vocational School I of Minas in delivering speech. After doing the treatment it was found that students were knowledgeable in identifying indicators of .speech contest and in doing exposures towards the factors of speaking in giving a speech, such as appearance/ performance, intonation, fluency, organization including time management/ accuracy, pronunciation and articulation. The result, therefore, in terms of the speaking abilitiy of the students in delivering a speech was gradualy increasing.
