Abstract

Electrification ratio of NTT is 28.7 % in 2008. Technical and economical assessments to investigate the possibilities to implement wind farm in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province is directed to contribute in the effort to raise the electricity ratio in this province. Some areas are having yearly average wind speed greater than 5 m/sec and the wind power density greater than 300 Watt/m2 . Wind farm is proposed to reduce local dependency to Diesel Power Plant (DPP) and to exerting an effort to reduce CO2 emission. The result of survey, Wind Energy Conversion (WEC) selection and simulation to get wind farm configuration for Oelbubuk, in South Central Timor (TTS) Regency in NTT is described. The evaluation of three different WEC having capacity greater than 250kW per unit and its formation are described. The assessment of electricity facilities of DPP in SOE city, its load profile in 2008 and the possible of interconnection to wind farm are described.

Abstract

Windspeed is used as a reference in utilization of windturbine as a generating system and will be the main variable for calculation of the energy produced at a certain location. Windspeeds are classified in small scale, medium and large scales. Applications of small scales are generally in the stand-alone mode, while the large systems are intended for interconnection into the utility grid. In between, there are medium scale applications with the annual average windspeed of 4.0 m/s - 50 m/s. Examples of applications are hybrid of windturbine with local diesel generating sets, known as wind-diesel system using one or more windturbines of the size of 10 kW-100 kW and to be matched with the capacity of the existing deisel. most applications are in the intermittent mode of operation in order to obtain higher fuel saving which is used to operate the diesel. Some configurations, selection of components, modelling and calculations are presented to identify more detailed behaviour of the system.

Abstract

The application of WInd Energy Conversion Systems (WECS) for supplying water for households, irrigation, livestock or other purposes have been developed to increase the contribution of renewable source of energy to support people, particularly at locations where accessibility to public utility networks not available or when the system itself needed by the consumer. Various WECS available in market as well as commercial pumps which can be used for bored hole., deep well or surface water and must be matched for optimal performance of the whole system; therefore, the analysis for selection of a pump due to its design characteristics for matching with an existing wind turbine that result-in optimal conditions of supply and demand has to be performed. A wind turbine with 6 blades rotor installed at BBUG samas Bantul is taken as a case study.
