Abstract

than SQL is the general idea of this Hadoop implementation. The advancement of technology generates growing amount of data and demands a new method to process the big data. The performance of this hadoop implementation was also compared with that of SQL to prove hadoop’s novelty in processing big data. Moreover different hadoop’s implementations – such as various number of nodes, use of a combiner, and use of different block sizes – were evaluated.Hadoop was implemented for five queries (or problems) in processing the library circulation data. Those five problems are finding the numbers of borrowing transactions categorized by the audio-video types, collection types, titles, locations, and users’ departments.Some conclusions can be drawn based on the hadoop mapreduce implementation. Hadoop’s performance tops SQL’s when large data are being processed. The more the number of computer nodes, the faster the mapreduce application is to complete its execution. Use of a combiner can speed up the application’s execution. The arrangement with full data blocks can give better execution time than that with non-full data blocks does. In this hadoop implementation, the execution time using the block size of 128 MB is smaller than that of 28 MB and 512 MB.

Abstract

Physics is one of the science subjects which learns about natural phenomena in our surroundings. One of the topics learnt in physics is Electric Circuit. Many people nowadays lack the understanding of the theories, calculation formulae, and practices of the electric circuit. Even though the electric circuit is indispensable and one of the physics topics that is used in everyday’s life. People are often not interested in learning theories and formulae from the book, while the electric circuits practices require components and supporting substances. This leads to a new matter because sometimes there are substances that are too hard to find and get.This manuscript discusses the development of an Android-based application for learning simple electric circuits. Android is chosen because it is one of the smartphones operating systems that is aggresively growing. This application employs a drag and drop method, which consists of dragging the desired object and dropping it at a particular position. The application was developed using Java programming language, Eclipse, and MySQL as its database.Based on the system testing that has been done, the developed application allows a user to login to the system, register him/herself, display simple electric circuit materials, display simulation that will be useful for the user in designing a simple electric circuit with its specified components and the calculation, try quizzes to test his/her knowledge, display users scores, and update materials and quizzes. This application needs internet connection to register, login, display images, and update data.

Abstract

Internet is one of the fastest growing Information Technology. There is a lot of information which can easily be obtained through the Internet. Computer network system is needed for a person to use or access it. Along with the increasing number of Internet users, Petra Christian University has been doing various ways in using the internet well, such as increasing bandwidth and also replacing the Internet cable lines with fiber cable. However, there are still some problems like delayed access, etc.Therefore, this manuscript describes the development of bandwidth usage visualization to help Petra Christian University, particularly its network division, to obtain information about Internet bandwidth usage. The application which is used for generating the bandwidth usage visualization is TSTAT. TSAT is a tool for analyzing the traffic passing through the network layer and it can only be used in a UNIX-based operating system such as LINUX, OS X, and other variants. Collected traffic data will be analyzed using TSTAT and the results (in RRD format) are stored in mysql database. Storing to database is necessary since the RRD storage capacity is so limited (fixed) that, when the capacity is full, the earliest data will be overwritten. Afterward, data from database will be visualized by using RDDtools, and the display result in the form of graph will be presented on the website by using PHP language. Based on 15-minute traffic data capture, 95,8% of the traffic is TCP protocol, while 4,2% is UDP.

Abstract

North Toraja Regency is one of the regencies in Indonesia which is actively developing itself as a tourist destination. North Toraja’s tourism has its own uniqueness. It offers different types of tourist attractions compared to those of other regencies. However, due to the lack of tourism information, both local and foreign tourists have not considered North Toraja as an attractive tourist destination. Based on the problem described, there is a need to make a catalogue website that aims to give clear and accurate information regarding North Toraja’s various tourist spots.Important information such as North Toraja’s rich history, tourist spots, public facilities, arts and crafts, and annual traditional activities or events are all provided in this catalogue website. Thus, tourists can easily obtain complete information about North Toraja’s tourism. This website was created using programming languages like PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL database.The catalogue website has many features and information such as user profile, map, tourist spots, public facilities, culture, arts, traditional food, events, recommendations, and photo gallery.

Abstract

Authentication at Petra Christian University using an account that is stored in the local user operating system on the server John and Peter. Puskom need to store more data than it currently can. Therefore, LDAP is used to replace the local user account on the storage operating system. Existing application uses PAM through dovecot / POP3 to authenticate.Work on the thesis focuses on the implementation of LDAP at Petra Christian University and migration of accounts and applications. Implementation and migration using account data that is stored on a server John and Peter. Applications are made for searching and modify existing account or create new account. Applications are made to support the needs Puskom.Based on testing performed, the account migration is successful. Testing the migrated account was performed using multiple accounts belongs to students and lecturer. Also response time that is needed by LDAP to authentication request is shorter than autentication using existing system which use POP3.

Abstract

Banyuwangi is the eastern most regency of the island of Java. The regency’s geography is quite diverse, from lowlands to mountains. Banyuwangi also has two nature reserves, which are very large and beautiful for visitors to see particularly marine nature. Tourism in Banyuwangi is also growing rapidly, ranging from city tours, marine tours, culinary tours, and other attractions. These attract many interests from tourists to visit Banyuwangi to see and enjoy tourism in Banyuwangi. However, the information about Banyuwangi tourism is quite difficult to obtain in a complete form and require a lot of time to collect from various sources. Relying on mobile devices that can be carried anywhere and easy internet access, an application for providing information to guide tourism in Banyuwangi was proposed.In this study, an Android-based tourism information application for Banyuwangi was developed. The application has many features that can help users, particularly information on places of interest, hotels, public transport, culinary, souvenir, and weather.Testing results show that the application can display local maps, routes, sorted list of places of interest by distance or travel time, weather forecast, and also provide an overview of Banyuwangi tourism through photographs and video clips. Using this application, the user can easily access tourism information in Banyuwangi.

Abstract

E-commerce sites in Indonesia offers many products with different prices. Consumers will find it hard to do a comparison of products by opening many existing e-commerce web. Therefore, a website portal is created for consumers to find and do a comparison of product from any existing e-commerce.The research focused on the feature for comparison between e-commerce products. Product comparison feature requires the server can retrieve product data from any e-commerce site and GSMArena. Then, process followed by parsing and processing on any e-commerce product data which has been established to be adapted to the product GSMArena.Based on the research, the time to get data e-commerce products and GSMArena products relies on the servers bandwidth and response time provided by each site. Products on each e-commerce have different product name from GSMArena, so the calculations is needed for the suitability of the product name between e-commerce and GSMArena.

Abstract

Tourism is an activity which is done by one or many persons for having holiday or recreation. Finding a good tourism spot, which fits with one’s interest and spare time, is not an easy task. In general, tourism information that appears on the websites or in the mobile applications is not based on users interest. Lack of information is a hassle for someone who is having holiday.Therefore, a recommendation-system application was made using content-based and collaborative-based methods as a means to choose tourism spots in accordance with users preferences This Android application has features to list tourist spots which suit the users preferences give some alternate routes to user, show details of the tourism spots, and show their locations in the map.From the conducted test, the system can recommends tourism spotsthat match with user’s preferences, and user can see the recommended alternate routes and the detailed information of the tourist spots.

Abstract

XYZ High School is a private high schools that was founded in 1959 and has more than 500 students. On daily basis, XYZ high school conducts the recording and sharing of data manually. Since the recording is done manually, XYZ High School’s paper usage is considerably high and often it finds difficulties in finding data because they are stored in the non digital-archive . This thesis developed web and mobile devices - based application acting as a service system that provides information related to students and teachers .This service system has features to display information about the academic data such as the student’s score and the teaching materials that can be downloaded by the students, and the non-academic data such as personal information of students, personal information of teachers, class schedule, announcements, and information about violations committed by students.The test results show that the system can help the student to search the information and operate well in a variety browsers and Android devices

Abstract

HIMA or Himpunan Mahasiswa is a student union on the department’s level in a university. HIMAINFRA is the Student Union of the Department of Informatics and Business Information System of Petra Christian University. HIMAINFRA aims to address the needs of all students of the Department of Informatics and Business Information System of Petra Christian University in academic and non academic matters. One of the services of HIMAINFRA is to distribute announcements and upcoming events to the students.Nowadays, HIMAINFRA uses posters and social media, such as LINE and Instagram, to distribute the announcements and information to the students. However, due to some limitations on the social media, not all announcements and information from HIMAINFRA can be received by the students. Besides that, to register as an event participant or an event committee, the student still need to do it manually (i.e., paper-based).This Android-based HIMAINFRA application was developed to help HIMAINFRA distribute the announcements and information. This application also helps HIMAINFRA’s members on running a committee and enables the students of the Department of Informatics and Business Information System to register online as event participants or committees. This application leverages on Firebase Realtime Database and Firebase Cloud Messaging.
