Abstract

Today, the world is languishing in a patriarchal structure. This patriarchal domination not only harms women, but also men, children, the elderly, and marginalized groups. Gender mainstreaming extends its studies not only to femininity but to parenting (motherhood and fatherhood), early childhood. In addition, gender also extends to the realm of masculinity or male studies. In this case, the psychology of gender underlines this phenomenon with hegemonic masculinity discourse. Masculinity is seen from the dominance of the spaces of life both public and private. This paper examines the ideology of hegemonic masculinity as the most desirable theoretical response to Critical Men Studies (CSM). This elaboration of the Hegemonic Masculinity concept is useful as a 'binocular tool' that is operational for empirical studies of masculinity.

Abstract

Selamat Datang, Mari Memulai Selamat datang dan tiba ke “rumah” Psychosophia: Journal of Psychology, Religion, and Humanity—sebuah jurnal peer-review—terbitan pertama.

Abstract

The aims of paper is digging beneath the ontological relations between human and technology. It is handled by drawing a inspiration from Martin Heidegger's thought, specifically the period of Heidegger II. This library research discusses two key of Heidegger’s texts against technology, namely: “Questions concerning Technology” and “Discourse about Thinking”. The paper provides some findings: 1) The Dasein reconstruction transforms toward Digi-sein as the only and one Questioner of Being that exist within a heart of digital culture; 2) Heideggerian destruction of gestell as a framed way of thinking that makes humans and technology relations become non-free relations. Heidegger calls calculative thinking as actually "flight from thinking". Gestell shackles us in exploitative ways of thinking that oppose disclosure the veil of human openness to the Being; 3) Heidegger employs gelassenheit as a simple and relaxed attitude, as releasement, that was not impermeable to nuances of metaphysics and religion. Gelassenheit was living an attitude that kept a tension between saying "yes" and "no", simultaneously and ambiguously. Technology is addressed by “let it be” attitude, and release the technology as it is.

Abstract

The hegemony of masculinity tends to benefit more on one side, man. It is interesting to observe the change of masculinity in men with time. The dynamics proceeded to pertain to the psychological, economic, social, and symbolic representation. This study aimed to reveal both the narrative identities of elderly masculinity and the psychological dynamics that accompanied the lifespan of an older man. This study used hermeneutic-phenomenological approaches, with critical narrative analysis developed from Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics. Five older men, who live in a geriatric house in Yogyakarta, participated in this study. The results showed that the face of elderly masculinity was paradoxical masculinity. At the ideal level, the older men appropriated hegemonic masculinity but at the level of reality, they were in the marginalized masculinity position. Masculine subjects had experienced the maturation effect of togetherness with their wife. Wife has been an important subject and medium for growing the elderly masculinity and maintaining traditional manhood. The Paradox and their intersection with the complexity of the psychological dynamics made older men offer wiser masculinity and transform into positive masculinity such as gratitude, acceptance of life, sincerity, and caring.
