Abstract

Environmental Ethics deal with the moral relationship ofhuman beings with the environment. It answers questions like, why is it wrong for humans to pollute and destroy the environment? Is it wrong to pollute the environment because it harms the present or the future of human well-being or because nature itselfpossesses an innate value? The framework of the behavior of Muslims in respect to nature is a very important component in Islamic ethics. Both the Quran and Hadith (Sunna) emphasize protecting and valuing the environment as a central component of faith. Though Islamic ethics is providing Muslims with very sophisticated and just principles; the majority of Muslims are not taking the forefront in protecting nature and in shaping sustainable policy and practices. The aim in this article is to assess the relationship between nature and Islamic ethics and possible Islamic responses to the environmental crisis.

Abstract

Not many in this world there is a person as a philosopher as well as a poet. Among the few of them there is one popular name incontemporary literature's world, i.e. Kahlil Gibran. Many people knew Kahlil Gibran as poet-philosopher from Lebanon resided in Boston, United States. Gibran's thoughts and ideas are very philosophical and full of meaning, since expressed in beautiful poetical style, therefore popular in public. In another side, Gibran's styles are often using parables and aphorisms make people easier to understand even within esoteric and mystical dimension. Inits analysis the writer saw the whole Gibran 's vision and perception towards universal themes in life, including love, it could be said that Gibran is a person with sharp and clear view in perceiving reality around. Even to show the truth ofreality portrait, Gibran does not hesitate to break the common order and the "approved" order, to the minutes details such as the application ofgrammar. This makes Gibran to bear the title The Heretic and The Rebellious. This style is followed and gives inspiration to many writers and another thinker after himself. This Gibran's thought and style to many people are called as Gibranism.

Abstract

Religious violence is a term that covers phenomena where religion, in its  diversity, is either the subject or object of violent behaviour. Religious violence is, specifically, violence that is motivated by or in reaction to religious precepts, texts, or doctrines. Islam has been associated with violence in a variety of contexts, including Jihads (holy wars), violent acts by Muslims against perceived enemies of Islam, violence against women ostensibly supported by Islam's tenets, references to violence in the Qur'an, and acts of terrorism motivated and/or justified by Islam. Muslims, including clerics and leaders have used Islamic ideas, concepts, texts, and themes to justify violence. One among popular religious violence in Islamic History is mihnah (inquisition). To socialize Mu’tazilah teaching, Al-Ma’mun and his successors managed Mihnah or inquisition, that is the dispersion of this belief and teachings forcefully and even violently. As the ruler, Al Ma’mun thought that it was his duty to maintain the purity of the religion and the  truth enforcement in the state community. As described in this article, Mihna is a kind of intellectual violence conducted by Mu’tazilah and Al-Ma’mun as a kind of coalition between religion and politics.

Abstract

There are numerous religious and cultural ethnic groups worldwide, many of which have mutual interactions with each other. For hundreds of years, Persian as well as Shi‘a communities have been known as minority groups with considerable influence on some Eastern and Western societies. The following article try to uncover modes of Indonesian Islamic culture, which have influenced by Persian Sufism, along with its Syi’ah tendencies. The purpose of this essay is to display the influence of Persian Sufism in the cultural expressions of Moslems in Indonesia in early Islam era. With this purpose in mind, a comprehensive bibliography of works published related to the issues is presented. An attempt is also made to present the influence of Persian Sufism figures and elements on the historical and modern Indonesian Islam.[Terdapat beragam kelompok religius dan etnis yang tersebar di berbagai belahan dunia yang memiliki interaksi timbal balik satu sama lain. Selama ratusan tahun, Bangsa Persia, sebagaimana halnya komunitas Syi’ah, telah dikenal sebagai kelompok minoritas yang memiliki pengaruh yang patut diperhitungkan bagi masyarakat dunia, baik di belahan Barat maupun Timur. Artikel berikut ini mencoba untuk mengungkap modus budaya Islam Indonesia yang telah terpengaruh oleh sufisme Persia bersamaan dengan kecenderungan Syi’ah. Tujuan tulisan ini adalah menampilkan pengaruh sufisme Persia dalam ekspresi kultural umat Islam Indonesia di masa awal. Dengan demikian, karya-karya bibliografi komprehensif terkait hal tersebut akan disajikan. Sebuah upaya juga dibuat untuk menyajikan pengaruh dari figur-figur sufi Persia dan beberapa unsur historis dan modern dalam Islam Indonesia.]
