Abstract

The research was conducted in October 2019 in the Bukit Tangkiling Nature Reserve, Central Kalimantan, aiming to find out the type composition, the community structure, and vegetation diversity. This research method is a survey with combination method and carried out purposively in sampling with total sample plots of 60. The results showed that there were 58 species of plants (6 species unidentified) which included 11 species of understorey, 32 species of seedlings, 32 species of saplings, 31 species of poles, and 38 species of trees. Vegetation at the level of seedlings, saplings, poles, and trees in the Bukit Tangkiling Nature Reserve is dominated by Acacia mangium, while the understorey is dominated by nut grass and thatch. The similarity index of vegetation communities between two locations ranged from 41.860 - 73.684%, while that between growth rates ranged from 32.558 - 7.143%. Plant communities have diversity values (H’), richness values (R), and evenness values (E) ranging from low to moderate. The horizontal stand structure has different exposed diameters, forming an inverted “J” curve and is concentrated in diameter class 1019.99 cm, while vertically the individual population is concentrated in high class 5 - 9.99 m.Keywords: Composition, Heterogeneity, Similarity, Stand structure

Abstract

This study aims to identify the type composition and estimate the potential for biomass and carbon deposits as well as carbon dioxide (CO2) uptake of peat swamp forest vegetation based on the growth rates (seedling, sapling, pole, tree). The estimation of potential deposits of vegetation biomass is calculated by destructive and non-destructive methods. The potential for carbon impedance is calculated using the formula Bof National Standardization (2011) and CO2 absorption with the IPCC formula (2006). The results showed that the number of vegetation types found was 44 types from 25 families. Stake-level vegetation is the most common type found compared to seedlings, poles, and trees. Tree-level vegetation is dominated by Cratoxylon arborescent BI, Combretocarpus rotundatus pole level, and Stemonurus secundiflorus Blume stake level., the seedling level of Anacolosa frutescens. The potential for biomass, carbon deposits, and CO2 uptake of peat swamp forest vegetation is 179.976 tons/ha; 84.588 tons C/ha; 310.442 tons CO2/ha, respectively. Tree-level vegetation has the highest deposits of biomass and carbon as well as CO2 uptake compared to seedling, sapling, and pole levels. Youth-level vegetation (seedlings, sapling, pole) in peat swamp forests has great potential in storing biomass, carbon, and CO2 uptake in the long term. Abstract

Land cover changes are difficult to review caused by large areas where the rate of its changes can not be controlled. Its changes need to be learned to obtain information of forest condition. The purpose of this study is to analyze land cover changes in 2015 to 2019 using Landsat 8 OLI-TIRS imagery including to know the vegetation diversity in Kapuas Tengah Sub District, Central Kalimantan Province. The results showed that during this time there are degradation of dense forest to shrubs approximately 7,857.061 ha and reforestation of medium forest to dense forest was 7,220.401 ha. The increasing of land cover is also occurred from open area to forest approximately 277.248 ha through palm oil plantations. The accuracy level of land cover classification is still not maximum. The results of the vegetation analysis also show that at each level of forest growth there are variations in species, which are dominated by red meranti (Shorea johorensis Foxw), white ketumbu, kalapapa and sampahiring (Cyperus Sp.). Diversity index and species richness index are categorized as low to moderate. Whereas the species evenness index is high category with index value of 1.
