Abstract

This study aims to determine the knowledge of manuscript writing and the readiness among selected accounting students to conduct research from a tertiary institution in Olongapo City, Philippines. The study used a descriptive-correlation research design to 70 purposively chosen students. The data underwent descriptive and inferential measures with the help SPSS 23 software. The study found that students were "knowledgeable" of the different parts of manuscript writing and were "ready" to conduct research. There was also a significant relationship between the knowledge of manuscript writing and the readiness of the students to conduct research. Writing the results and discussion part of the study was a significant predictor to conduct research. Implications for the institution, faculty, and students were suggested.

Abstract

The popularity of TikTok led the researchers to determine if its use improves the English-speaking skills of the Grade 9 students in a Science High School in Olongapo City, Philippines. The study used a descriptive-comparative research design where the researchers developed a self-assessment tool and a teacher observation checklist validated by experts in order to determine the students’ perceived English-speaking skill level. One hundred thirteen students participated in the research, and the study analyzed the data using descriptive and inferential statistics with the help of the open-source software, Jamovi. The study found no significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores of the respondents before and after integrating TikTok-based activities in their lessons using a paired sample t-test in the Jamovi software. However, for teacher-observers, the intervention is perceived as beneficial to improve the English-speaking skills of the students. The study argues that despite the popularity of TikTok amongst teenage students, it is something other than a language learning tool for students. However, the teachers observed that using the intervention can improve the English-speaking skills of the students. Overall, there is an evident disparity between the perceptions of the students and teachers regarding whether or not TikTok can have the ability to improve the English-speaking skills of the students. The researchers recommend that teachers may consider developing contextualized TikTok-based activities to make the speaking tasks more relevant and meaningful.

Abstract

Parenting is both a skill to learn and master since it will give the offspring perspectives in life. To attain this unique ability, one must master the art of affection, engagement and discipline towards the child. This study analyses affection, empathy, and play engagement as predictors of discipline strategies for parents of a primary school in the Philippines. The study used a descriptive-correlation research design with the survey as the primary gathering tool. One hundred forty-four parents voluntarily participated in the survey, which commenced in March and ended in April 2023. To analyze the data, the proponent used descriptive and inferential statistics. The study found that parents always show their affection and empathy, try to engage in play and establish discipline strategies. In addition, the computation also found a moderate relationship between showing affection and empathy and engaging in play with the establishment of discipline strategies among parents. Regression analysis also confirmed that showing affection and empathy and engaging in play are predictors of establishing discipline strategies among parents.

Abstract

In instructional management styles and strategies, parents observe teachers and administration employed in an academic community. They must align the values parents expect from their children. As study participants, parents understand that the school administration must demonstrate academic excellence. This study aims to determine the level of satisfaction with the school-based management of stakeholders in a regional science high school in Olongapo City, Philippines. The stakeholders' level of satisfaction is measured through the four (4) major areas of school-based management: leadership and governance, curriculum and instruction, accountability and continuous improvement, and management and resources. The study employed a descriptive survey research method with the help of a survey questionnaire as the primary data-gathering tool. One hundred ninety (190) stakeholders voluntarily participated and responded to the call with the help of the purposive sampling technique. The researchers developed an instrument that underwent validity and reliability evaluation. The study also used descriptive and inferential statistics to assess the gathered data. The study revealed that the stakeholders were "very satisfied" regarding curriculum and instruction, accountability and continuous improvement, and management and resources. However, only leadership and governance yielded "satisfied" stakeholder remarks. Furthermore, there were no substantial differences in the school-based management satisfaction of the stakeholders when grouped according to their profiles. Based on the results, the researchers recommended some vital suggestions at the end of the study.

Abstract

Parenting self-efficacy (PSE) refers to the idea and ability to progressively enhance a child’s development and educational outcomes. It is crucial because it directly impacts a child’s academic performance, behavior, and overall well-being. Thus, the main objective of this study was to explore parents’ parenting self-efficacy in a selected public school in a province in the Philippines. The investigator employed a cross-sectional research design and collected data using a standardized instrument among 130 volunteer respondents. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS 23. The result revealed that based on the demographics, most respondents have 2-3 children, were married, unemployed, high school graduates, and had a monthly household income of 5001–10,000 pesos. For parenting self-efficacy (PSE), four constructs garnered a response of "always." Conversely, when engaging in play and facilitating routines, respondents gave an "almost always" response. Inferential statistics also revealed that there was only a significant difference in engaging in play, facilitating routines, and establishing discipline strategies when the study grouped the respondents according to the number of children at home. Lastly, the monthly household income of the parents emerged as the only demographic predictor of parenting self-efficacy (PSE) based on the study results. In conclusion, the PSE of the respondents seemed high enough and was practiced by most of the parents. Only monthly household income generated sufficient results to predict PSE by parents.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the stress level of nursing students in different settings and their use of coping strategies during the pandemic. The researchers used a descriptive-correlation research design for 288 nursing students purposively selected for the study. The study took place during the academic year of 2022-2023. The study also employed three (3) research tools for the data gathering. It subjected the data to descriptive and inferential analysis using SPSS 23. In general, the study found that in terms of stress level, the nursing students remarked “moderately high,” as for the coping strategies, they “sometimes” used them. The inferential computation also observed significant variations in the stress level in the study in terms of gender, age, school, and year level. Moreover, there was a low positive relationship between the level of stress and the use of coping strategies among the nursing students. To confirm the connection, perceived stress and external stressors were significant predictors of the use of coping strategies among nursing students. The researchers then gave several implications at the end of the study.
